Could the GS Storm be making a comeback?

In RC Car Action, imagine my surprise when I saw an add for the GS Storm RTR Plus. Did GS actually re-release the Storm? A few pages later and there is an article about the Storm RTR Plus. Now, it just appears to be a Storm Pro in RTR form.

Also, why didn't the GS team use the new Avenger at the IFMAR worlds? They were all racing GS Storms. Maybe the Avenger isn't everything that we hoped it would be.

Humboldt, you got any insider information?

Or am I way behind in the times. It wouldn't be the first time and it probably won't be the last.

OK the Avenger is actually the Avenger Storm. As for the new Storm plus, They replaced the BO1 with the new and improved version that is called the BO2. Supposed to have more torque. As for it being the storm Pro in RTR I have no idea.

The Storm has been brought back by customer demand.

Believe it or not during the Worlds parts for the Avenger were being re-designed do to lack of material availability (some don't believe it and I am not here to convince them). They were using a material that allowed crazy thin shocktowers along with other parts do to the materials increased strength. Do to the unavailability of said materials GS actually had to redesign some major portions of the buggy. It was initally set to be released after the Worlds warm up in March but it wasn't released do to the above problems until late Sept.

Here I got painting a big red target on my head :smoke:

thats some funny poop there blazer. at least you didnt let 'em get ya down about the whole thing.

Ok anyone here ever here of gulltough, nitronic 60 or heres a easyone peek, inconnel how about titanium of corse every one has heard of that. I am sticking up for humbolt on this one I should have before. Being in the medical machining field "prototypes" I see all kinds of offbeat metal that alot of people have never heard of, someone is always looking for a stronger and lighter meterial. So I would not critize him, GS probably did find something that worked pretty dam good but the problem is getting the people who hold the patent for it to make large batches untill they know there is going to be a big demand for it. Same thing with gulltough right now they quit making it. Now nitronic 60 is close but not exactly the same, Why? Carpenter Steel holds the patent on gulltough. Do you think titanium was released to the public right away no. The military had first dibs on it. It's no longer the best so now anyone can get.

We were not doubting on him, just busting on him. Yeah, there are all kinds of matl's out there that we dont even know about. Heckwe have a Carpenter Steel just up the road from me. I would love to see what they have stashed.

Well I finally have news from my employee contact @ GS Racing.

Email from GS:

"Blazer,

I can assure you that GS Racing is in no financial trouble whatsoever. One thing is for sure though, the Avenger’s release date has been pushed back. “For What?!”, you may ask. Well let me fill you in on a little secret. The Avengers production cost has sky rocketed. We have been using NASA space age material that we have been getting off the black market. Because our distributor for that “A” grade metal alloy has been tracked down by the FBI, we can no longer continue with our plans with the new Avenger and its unknown, But extremely light and durable metal alloy. We have gone back to the drawing board and will offer the new Avenger with the traditional 7075 aluminum, carbon fiber, and plastic parts. Expect to see the Avenger released late summer to early fall.

GS Racing"

So your faithfull buggy newshound has delievered again!

talk amungst yourselfs.........

and everyone thought you were nuts... (not saying your not)
NASA... space age material... hmmm, who do you know?

Went to a brand new hobby shop that opened up about 30 minutes from my house the other day... Much to my suprise, he had a whole shelf of GS Storm RTR's, & a GS Storm Avenger Pro. I didn't even know it was released... When I asked if he had the XB8, he replied, "It hasn't been released yet, probably after Xmas..." Is it me, or are these LHS owners oblivious ???? I haven't found one shop by me, that uses their computer for anything other than ordering parts from their suppliers... A bunch of TOOLS.....

sorry your big words and presumed experience with such alloys do not impress me. they are all steel alloys, plenty strong and wear resistant but at the price of being heavy. I've worked with and or spoken with people (as in the guy working right next to me) that have worked with every alloy you've listed. i used to do military/gov't work at past jobs, now all medical machining. at this point in time a titainium alloy is the best solution for a light strong RC car, with aluminum coming in second. however it isnt cost effective yet to make chassis's from Ti. i would belive that GS had a suppler for Ti with below market prices, and that supplier unexpectedly dried up, but beyond that, no nasa material belief here. i gave humbolt a ribbing in another thread, no need to continue it here.

sorry hb, i read the other thread after posting this. i didn't mean any harm in it. i apologize for making an ass out of myself. this site has the best info on stuff on the net and seems pretty laid back and i don't wish to offend while i'm here.

there is a new storm avenger mkII on sale on ebay for 345 dollar

yes, parts are pretty easy to come by, at least here anyway. stop on your local hobby shop and ask if they have them, if not, can they order the part you need.
