Rule of thumb:

Plastic/Nylon gears – NO

Steel meshed with steel or aluminum gears – YES
 
I actually use a dry lubricant on plastic/nylon gears for mini/micros. It's made by O'Donnell's and is made with PTFE (Teflon) to keep grime and grit from sticking to the gears.
