Gran Turismo 4 (GT4) - Review

I've only had this game for a couple of hours and I must say it's Bad Ass!!! Graphics and videos are definitely top notch. This is going to be a "must-have" for any racing fan.

The only downside so far is that I tried to load it to my hard drive w/ HDAdvance and it converted it fine. The only problem was it wouldn't play. I tried enabling Mode 1-2-3 individually and in combinations, but couldn't get her to play past the intro screen. Oh well, I will just use the disk for now.


Anyway, I just transferred my A & B liscence from GT3, plus 100,000 credits. Now it's time to go shopping and do some upgrades.

Hhhhmmm, the hardest part is picking out what car to start with first. What are you guys choosing?

Is this the PC version you are talking about? I was going to get the PS2 version but was waiting to try it out first.

well, for a second I thought my day went sour. Once I found out you can set the video output to HDTV I started fiddling with hookups and stuff... fine and dandy till I realized I pulled on my compenent cable too hard... F!!!!! little solder work and I'm good to go again. but I still can't figure out how to hook it up for 1080i. I can change it to 480p, but I don't even know what the difference between 480p and normal is. Isn't normal 480i?

n/m it's not 16:9 aspect in progressive mode. I put it back to normal till I figure HD out.

you guys GOT to get this new wheel... damn, this is slick... once it gets past 90 degrees it's a whole new kinda sim

jetmechG550, I scooped up the PS2 version.

Lessen, that sucks about the cable, but at least you got it hooked up again. Is the wheel your referring to the new Logitech one? I was curious as to how good that would be. Sounds like you would recommend it. Maybe I will give it a try.

BTW, if anyone is interested, here is a list of the cars on GT4. I was hyped when I saw that there was over 650 cars. The only downside is that there are 5-6 versions of the same car. For example, 7 versions of the vette, 10 versions of the supra, etc.. Oh well its still bad ass, I guess I was just expecting only 2-3 versions of some cars, not 7-10. Here is the link:

yeah DL. The new logitech wheel. It's totally sweet. I'm having a hard time getting used to the sequential shifter though. I'm sooo used to the paddles. You can still use the paddles but I'm trying to use the shifter

That game looks sweet I have all of the previous ones and really liked them all. I was curious if you hit the wall do you actually crash or does it just bounce off like the originals that was my only complaint with the first versions. My 5 year old loved it though when He raced on the test track with the Escudo lol he would almost win every race as long as he hit the gas!!!

nope, no damage. but if you pick 1 of 2 scenarios as punishment for hitting barriers or walls too hard. you can either get a timed slow down or a pit row drive through.

Is anybody else getting a twitchy screen in Arcade mode? I think I may have to buy new cables after all...

i was so excited to buy it just to learn that you are unable to drive it..... to many polygons in the driver to put it on the track..... unfair really... such a good car

How does the gt1-4 games compare to Rallysport for xbox? Rallysport 2 is my favorite xbox game. Does Gt4 have off road rally?

o man i wanna get that game bad too bad its most likely on reserve everywhere lol. and yes Scottm there is a rally mode in GT4 but you have to get your rally license or you could play it in arcade mode.

ok cool, or not really. at least I know it's not my cables. I noticed it seems to be happening at the same point during a sequence sometimes so I figured it couldn't be my cables. It's not too bad realy. Is the new PS2 better or something?

did you get gold in everything? I decided to start from scratch as well. I'm hoping I get a free car if I gold everything in the B Lisence like in "3". But even if I don't I want the gold anyways. I can't believe they make you do full lap test for a B lisence.

dang, a free car just for completion?! cool! I guess I should just get my lisence and work with what I got. I think I'm on test 8 or 9. Gold except the two full course tests I've been through. Anybody notice how different Laguna Seca is? They must have changed the course again in 1:1. Can't take turn 5 at full speed anymore... the hairpin is a little different too. Dang, and the sweeping left after the corkscrew... watch the rumble strip!
