Hey guys,

I am looking to pick up a portable GPS unit for the car. I am looking for something in the 4 to 5 hundred range and would like to be able to make it portable. Anybody out there have any recomendations? I would like to have it by the time I hit FL this winter, so no real hurry.

I have always liked Garmin, I have 3 of them. Never had a problem and they are easy to use and very durable. I have tried Magellan and wasn't all that impressed. They were just to annoying to use when in a hurry, and seemed to be overly complicated.

I have been looking at the Garmin Nuvi's but there are so many damn versions of it that I am a bit overwhelmed at the moment. It is really hard to understand the differences between the different models. I haven't even looked at the other manufacturers yet.

Go with Garmin, their software is the best out there. I've seen a few discussions on other forums about different GPS units and the most satisfied customers are always the Garmin people. Most complaints I have seen are from people using the Tom Tom or Crap Crap. The software sucks!

I got a Tom Tom about 8 months ago and love it. I was looking at getting the Garmin, but couldn't find any locally, and I needed it that day, so the Tom Tom won. It helps me navigate all over California downtown and rural areas, to all of our jobsites. The only problem that I have had with it was the thing that sticks to the window likes to fall off if the window is dirty when you stick it up.

Thanks Rob my friend... you were more polite than I would have been. :D

Thanks for the advice guys. So far the reviews on the Garmin have been great. I have looked at the Tom Tom... but I can just hear the jokes coming from a mile away! LOL

Does anybody know the main differences between the different nuvi's? There mus be 30 versions of the damn thing!

Hey Guys,

I was looking at the Garmin Street Pilot 2820 or the Street Pilot C580. Any advice on these two? Overpriced? Thanks guys.
