I have a Garmin Street Pilot C550 that I love. It has all the normal navigation stuff plus you can load your own "points of interest" from databases that people have created online like every lowes location or dunkin etc. It also has bluetooth integrated and can act as a speaker phone for your phone so when you get a call the caller id comes up on the screen and you can just tap it to answer. Same for texts. And if you search the device for food or hotels etc it has the phone number for all those things and you can just tap it and it will automatically start the call through the bluetooth.
I've used a bunch of Gps devices for both auto and marine navigation and Garmin are by far the most reliable devices.

Turn left three blocks back you dumb bastage!!!!!!!

You're goin' the wrong way!!!!!

See you don't need a GPS! :)

Excellent! Give me your phone # so I can call you from the car when I need directions.

I went to several stores, and got one at Best Buy. It's the TomTom ONE XL. Wide screen, car mount or portable (on foot) with a choice of voices.
I finally gave in. After living here for almost 8 years, and moving 3 times, it seems that half the milage I've put on my car is from making U-turns.

Coach Z, I just came back from taking it for a test drive. I've still got more programming to do on it, but it seems to have all the gadgetry you mentioned, including the Bluetooth connection.
With all the screen options, voice options, POI inputs, etc, I think it's got it all.
It even finds all the ATMs in the area when you choose your bank. Slick technology.

LMAO. I already had one of those. I couldn't understand half of it, and he didn't start screaming till AFTER I had missed the turn. Now I have a sweet girl talking softly to me BEFORE I have to turn.
I've spent the last hour with programing, downloads and backups. Lots of neat features. I tink I dun good.

The BMW Magazine that I get did an article some time back about Nav systems in their cars and how different regions/countries use different voices. The article then went on to say that in America most prefer a male voice so they don't have a woman nagging at them! LOL Kinda has some meaning, I know our audio checklist in the airplane annoyed the crap out of me when we had a woman's voice, we switched to male and it wasn't so bad and just recently went back to female, now I hate it again!

The only reason I wanted it was to have a girl talking to me on long rides. lol
I also have a choice of British or Irish accents. I can understand wanting a male voice to take you through a pre-flight checklist.
Last night I happened to come across one of those home shopping clubs pushing the Garmin 200W. I watched for a while just to compare the features. Both 4.3 wide screen, both $249. Almost identical in every detail. However, I think the TomTom ONE XL is one up on the Garmin since it doesn't use an SD card anymore, but instead is all internal memory.

Is it only internal, or does it have an option for an SD card?

If it only has internal I see that as drawback. Also in my experience Garmins have been quicker to reacquire satellites coming out of a tunnel. But that might have changed.

I'm sure however that they all charge you an arm and a leg for getting the maps updated.

Rolex I guess you most be more comfortable taking driving directions from a female................I am.

The garmin has an sd slot but all the maps and poi's are stored on the internal memory. Not really sure when you'd need to go to the external unless you were loading music on it and thats just goofy.

The slot is still there, but it's taped over with a message about internal mem.
I was checking out the TomTom store, and you can purchase different voices. One is a mobster telling you to get in his limousine for a ride you can't refuse, there's John Cleese from "Monty Python", a New York City cab driver telling you to git in, move it, da meeders runnin, and several others.
They'd be fun for a while, but I prefer the soft sweet smelling lady over the fat stinky cabby.

By the way, I just downloaded a fix that allows it to aquire the satellites MUCH faster, even when surrounded by tall buildings and trees.
