I just got some fuel and got my igniter charged up so I thought I'd start breaking in the savage tonight... It starts fine and idles for maybe 15-30 seconds then as it heats up it seems to give a couple quick revs then starts revving pretty high (not full throttle but quite a bit higher than it should be idling(I think).. and then stops. I tried adjusting the idle screw but it doesn't seem to bring it down and I tried the high and low speed idle screws as well but they didn't seem to do anything either lol.. HPI says the factory settings are 3 turns from closed and 4.5 turns from closed but the screws don't seem to have any firm stops.. they just get tighter and I didn't want to strip them.

Anyway... Any help would be appreciated, at this point I'd just like to know if this sounds normal for break in period or should I be making some adjustments..

Thanks.

Where are you breaking it in at? Outside in the cool temperature? I see you're from canada so I'm wondering if it's real cold outside. When I broke my .21 in, I didn't adjust any needles until like the 4th or 5th tank. Of course, it was about 80 degrees outside. You may want to heat up the engine a bit with a hair dryer and then start it. The high speed needle should stop and then you can go counter clockwise from there. You should not touch the mid/low speed needle until after about 8 tanks or so. You should wait until the engine gets broken in for that if you ask my opinion. Check the fuel lines and exhaust lines. Make sure there is no leaks. When you said it revs up and then quits, it sounds like it's a bit lean. Check your high speed needles once again. The first tank may be a bit rough, but hang in there.

Yep outside and it is pretty chilly.. I'm going to give it another go tomorrow after I re-check everything.

Thanks

Rechecked everything and got it idleing pretty good,, finnished the first tank of fuel.. did some stuff, then a few hours ago I was about to give it the second run but it was flooded and the button on the rotostart stuck and it got hot and shorted out lol...

I just got the rotostart fixed again with a new switch from good ol' radioshack...

Maybe I'll have better luck tomorrow heh..

:nono:

I saw a fix for that problem somewhere. The guy used a 4amp Radio Shack switch and a touring car motor. He also upgraded all the wiring and used a Deans plug instead of the Tamiya one.My freind has a Roto Start and we used a 4amp switch after he fried his out and it's been working fine since then.
