so i went and got a new carb body, glow plug, and some 20% nitro gas.
get home put it all together. and after some (lots) of cranking it finally starts.
take it out to the yard run it around and it seems kind of sluggish (after letting it idle for a few) it seems to be bogging down. then it died and it wouldnt start. took the glow plug out and it would not glow orange... so i put another one that i had in. and then it ran. its running in reverse now (think i have the diff in backwards) and its slow as hell. and the steering servo i think it shot. it takes forever to turn and it wont turn by itself even when its not on the groun... i dont know what to do with it. tuning? new servo? loosen screws for the steering servo? I'm lost. dont have much money to be spending on it.... it blew the first glow plug within half a tank. so i turned another half turn out on the HSN(?) and it hasnt blown it yet. so...

Did you seal the carb and replace the o-rings when you installed the new body? How hot did it get when the plug quit? You definitely have tuning issues but first get that diff in right and get your steering working properly. Make sure your batteries are good, wires are connected securelyand not broken anywhere and linkage is free from binding. If that's good and still won't steer properly, replace the servo.

Then check the tuning chart sticky at the top of the general Nitro forum.

the new carb body came with new o rings. i dont have a heat gun or i would deffinatly keep track. all wires and such are good. i just replaced the radio receiver a year ago before it the con rod broke. the batteries are brand new. I'm going to tinker with it tomorrow and see what i can do. it was running but was running in reverse the whole time in order to go forwards. >.< lol. my bad. the batteries move the gear shifter perfectly and the throttle servo excellent. especially with the new carb body. i find it weird that the plug blew within like 10mins....maybe i can claim it was faulty. lol
the truck is over 6-7 years old though... so maybe the servo has gone bad. ugh.

Your pillow balls are probably too tight. Put a drop of spit on the head to check the temp. It should take 2-3 seconds to sizzle off. Any faster means it's lean. As Racer asked, did you seal the carb as well as the backplate and header? If not, now's the time to do it. The only way to know you don't have an air leak is by sealing an engine yourself. When the engine runs, does it spit raw fuel out and smoke like crazy? Or is there a lack of smoke?
