Just bought a RB 523 Tmaxx kit off of ebay and a steel FOC for the tranny. I was wondering what else I needed to upgrade in order to run this truck reliably? That is the key word here. I have been without driving for almost a month now because everytime I fix one thing something else breaks!

I have a regular ol 2.5 Tmaxx as far as I know if this helps any. (sorry for the newb-ness, this is my first RC truck. I am used to working on big vehicles)

Please post links to what exactly I need. Thanks and sorry for all the trouble

if you dont have them , upgrade to 17 or 23 mm hexes and wheels. the rear mount pipe that comes with the 523 is very thin and easily smashed in a hard tail landing.

looks like you have the other stuff covered.

lol, well... the short answer is everything. put steel in the transmission and aluminum in the diffs. upgrade clutch and drive shafts. all of that stuff goes before my plastic spur gear believe it or not.

the stock one will work. you are going to wanna change it for the gearing though.

how many teeth should I get since I got a 72 tooth spur

I'd get a few different sizes so I could play with the gear ratio. An engine with that much balls is going to rip no matter how you gear, within reason.

oh i didnt realize you were putting this in a 2.5 maxx, for some reason i had revo in my head. the drivline on the 2.5 maxx will not hold the 523. you will need at LEAST revo spec drivelines, if not steel CVD's. metal cup diffs. i would make very sure you dont over tighten that metal spur. the 523 is a beast. in my revo i could punch it, it would wheelie so hard it would bounce of the wing, do a "kickjump" like a skateboard, and hop about a foot in the air.

Can you please post a link to the parts I need because I see they offer those cvds in many different brands and many different lengths. Also what are steel cup diffs?

I'm not sure if you can get them for the maxx but on my savage i had diffs with a metal cup instead of the plastic cup that mounts to the ring gear. I have never owned a tmaxx, I'm sure someone else will be able to tell you which cvd's to get.

You just have to order parts for a 2.5 or 2.5R T Maxx. And yer right beason, there's metal diff cups available for the T Maxx. My buddy picked the ones up from Hong Kong a while back(not sure of the brand name) and they have worked very well for him.

Ok well I just dropped another 75 bucks on RD logics CVD shafts front, rear, and center. I am gonna have to wait to upgrade the diffs as I am now out of money. This makes for about $550 I have spent on the truck in the past 2 days. I really hope it runs well after all this

man that stinks. no returns? you could have bought a very reliable truck like the savage for the same money.

Even if you rebuild the truck with the best options around. (I did) It still won't be a very durable truck.

I ran RPM everything, UE bulkheads, lunsford hingepins and links, Alloy diffs, OS .18TM and who knows what else.

Even after all that i could still break the truck on just about every outing.

To be honest with you if you are stuck on the tmaxx. I would just lower it, put some sick street tires on it and make some crazy speed runs with that engine. If you start beating on it, you are going to get discouraged.

anything is reliable when it moves at turtle speed.

turtle speed? you must have never seen a 3 speed savage with a nice bigblock in it. they are far from slow.

even stock they are pretty quick.

i am just kidding. the guy loves his max just like i do. he didn't ask for some opinions on other trucks or he would have posted on your thread. i don't go to the savage thread and talk about their downfalls.

wanna race?

You should just look for a maxx 3.3 roller and start there.

I learned my lessen on the maxx, it takes $ to make them nice. Mine is nice but my picco 21 max sucks, so I'm looking for another motor that'll really move that tank.:).....No I don't want a picco 26 either.

did you read my post? i already bought the parts. they shipped already. can't buy a 3.3 now silly goose :)

Ok so the place I bought the parts from just called me and the RRP tranny parts were out of stock so they sent me a regular traxxas FOC instead. Will this hold up to the RB 523 engine?
