I have a revo 3.3 and i bought it used it didnt come with a reciever came with remote but no receiver. I'm needing to know what would be best receiver to use with the black traxxas radio or should i just go ahead and get a tq system or a diff one all together

i took my radio system out of my firestorm to see if i could put it in the revo to test servos 5 channel receiver but i couldnt get it working right it would link then just flash on reciever battery on truck may have been to low didnt charge it was gonna charge today and try again

and also the truck doesn't have reverse without the reverse do i even still need the optidrive receiver installed

if it doesn't have reverse u dont need the optidrive. is it the fm remote? u can just get another traxxas receiver. usually, from my expierence, ur remote brand has to match the receiver brand. my .02, i dont like traxxas receivers an transmitters. i have a spektrum dx3c. i run all my rigs on this one remote. love it

I know the remote and receiver have to be the same brand. but i was mostly wondering if i could just take the opti out i wasn't sure if the tranny needed it for a shifting purpose or something I'm going to try charging battery on revo today and putting receiver from firestorm back in it i have a traxxas radio on it. Yea i been looking at the spktrum dx3c and the futaba 3pl their both about the same price

no you don't need the opti drive but you do need a failsafe.just get a rx/tx that has a failsafe built in.i think spectrum offers this set up.also have you looked at flysky?there cheap but do fine for bashing.

The dude gave me three gray remotes but I'm not planning on using them I'm either going to get a black one and reciever but most likely going to just get a new radio/reciever been looking at futaba 3pl and the spektrum line

its gonna be one or the other I'm kinda leaning toward the spektrum bc i like the looks of it, read good things about both set ups tho ill just have to decide once i get the money for it

If ur just bashing get the traxxas 2.4ghz stuff. It's cheap and works without any glitches. U can connect several receivers to the one transmitter

i have one black two channel 2.4 ghz receiver which would work fine with my stuff bc my max and revo both have a forward only kit in them but idk how to link the one remote to other receivers

Let clarify something here, the presence or lack of an opti-drive unit has nothing to do with your radio system at all. It has a sensor that detects movement in the trans to prevent accidental shifts between forward and reverse, plus it serves as a low voltage failsafe. It has no impact on whether or not any radio system can be used.
Your black 2.4ghz Traxxas transmitter should have a small instruction manual in the battery box, or you can look that stuff up online.

+1 on the Spektrum dx systems, they're really nice.

I know the optidrive doesn't have anything do do with the radio system all i needed on the optidrive was if i could take it out bc i have a foc on my revo which without reverse it does nothing for the truck besides a failsafe. Theres not intructions in mine ill have to look it up online but I'm really thinking about just going ahead and getting a spktrum radio system I'm just a basher and know i really dont need it for bashing but id like to have a radio that i can just pick it and a car up and go not have to worry about this radio and that radio its gonna be either spek or futaba

I know the optidrive doesn't have anything do do with the radio system all i needed on the optidrive was if i could take it out because i have a foc on my revo which without reverse it does nothing for the truck besides a failsafe.

You answered your own question there :)
The optidrive is a pos.

An onboard gauge usually works well if it's installed correctly. The telemetry systems are rarely ever accurate.

I just installed an MIP onboard temp gauge on my tmaxx and it is accurate within 2 degrees of my gun. I'm happy with it.
