Has anyone else here checked this out?

http://earth.google.com/

I've had it for a while now and recently used it to see a few RC tracks and where they are located.

If you havn't seen it, it's worth a look.

It is satellite images of the earth, not real time, but recent and very detailed in populated areas.
You have to wait for the resolution to form in populated areas, it's cool!.

I'm at N 33 degrees 32' 28.05" W 88 degrees 24' 6.03"

The brown rectangular spot you see is actually my bronze 66 Chrysler Newport parked in front of my harley shop. :)

I don't know exactly, but in my area, they seem to be in the 1-2 year max range, but very difficult to determine.

Judging from the view of my yard, I would have to say about 18-24 months.

i had a BUNCH of people come into my store (internet cafe) after hurrican katrina trying to see if there house is still there and stuff.. they were crying and celebrating when they see there house on the screen. then i have to be the butthole to tell them the pics could be up to 6 years old. they did however put up recent pics of that area about 1.5 weeks afterward. very very sureal.

I had looked at that area shortly after and figured it still was the older pics, I didn't know that they had updated the pics of that area.
I'm about 300 miles, north by north-east of New Orleans and we had alot of damage here as well, I can't even imagine what it was like there.

I know the images around here are 3 years old. I believe the airport I work at is even older since it doesn't show our hangar expansion we did. They did have that special link up for Katrina that had very recent pics. It is very easy to judge if you live in an area that is developing quickly. Harder to tell if you live in a big city that doesn't have too much new construction starting all the time.

the ones for Houston are oooooolldd. like 5-6 years. the land the lhs is built on isn't even cleared and the blazer i drove in 1999 is in the parking lot of my work. there's not any hi-res pics of where beason and i live :depress:. not that i was expecting any, i guess.

Not very good pics of where I live either. Can't see my house. Everything is a blur when I type in my street address. I can zoom out and tell where the malls are, which is about 3 miles from my house. Can tell where our airport is. That is 8 to 10 miles away.

Mines' the same way; can't see anything but green (which indicates trees). Pity too; I was planning on using it to look for a new bash area.

my area pics are about 3 years old, I know because my factory was under construction in that time, but I've found my track:)

I use maps.google.com. You dont have to download anything and it has maps and satellite images of most of the world. CLick pic for BIG version.

What airport? I give you the three letter identifier and you can type it in the search and it should take you right to it.

Nope, still a lot of blurrs. Maps.google.com was even blurrier than google earth. Man, I need to move, lol.

yup, had that program for a long time now. its some good stuff. best part is, is its free.

I know I'm backwoods but we do have an airport. :)

Actually most people going anywhere drive 45 minutes to another because it's cheaper.

I always wanted to fly. Been once. Buddy I fly RC with took me and the Ol' Lady out in a Cessna 182. Got a small airport with a grass field about 30 minutes out. We landed there, bought lunch and flew back.
That was my adventure with flying. I did get to fly the plane a little. Wish I could afford to get my license.
