What does this mean to all your Droid users?

Short term probably nothing. Long term you will start to see Google become more like Apple when the likes of HTC and Samsung, Google's long time partners start to move away or get pushed away from the Droid OS.

Apple gets to bake the cake and eat it to and it seems Google now wants the same.

I suppose there is a way Google could turn like Apple, but I personally don't see that happening. Google has and still does run their operation in any way but the same as Apple.

While still far to early to say much I think this could be a really good thing for Android. First Motorola holds a ton of patents tied to mobile phones, having this at Google's disposal is priceless. Second, Apple has been on a rampage to throw out lawsuits to anyone and everyone that Android related (except Google directly). They even have lawsuits against Motorola. Google has time and time again said they will help protect any company Apple throws lawsuits at. This means now if Apple wants to play the lawsuit game they are going to have to do it with the biggest dog of them all... Google. The most recent and funny Apple lawsuit I've seen, is against Samsung because their 10.1 tablet kinda, might look like the ipad and confuse consumers.

To think Android might turn out like Apple is in my opinion laughable at the current state. Android has been open since the start (Apple doesn't even know what "open" means). To think Google is suddenly going to change this is far fetched IMO.

In fact Google encourages manufactures to unlock their phones, something Motorola doesn't do - so this could be a win for us users... unlocked bootloaders on Motorola phones. Prime example are the Nexus phones Google releases!

Right now Android has twice the market share than what Apple does and did it in far less time it took Apple to over throw Blackberry. In my opinion if Google wanted to change their ways to mimic Apple they could have done this long ago and still been ahead of Apple. Who knows though what will happen in the future, but for the current moment I see this as a good thing for Android and it looks like the other companies such as Sumsung, HTC and LG are all supportive of the deal as well.

We'll see how this plays out.

I certainly don't buy the official comments made by LG, Samsung or HTC.

I also don't see this as a mistake on Google's part even if they pull a Cisco and ties with their partners start to become undone.

One thing is for sure, the Google business model is shifting and they won't be able to help becoming more and more like Apple and/or Microsoft.

If google does go the apple way, they will most likely do it slowly. That way most won't notice until it's too late.

Their moto is "don't be evil", and that's all well and good. But history shows that no matter the principles, once a company or person comes into a position of power or influence, these same principles stand to fall as the first.

Not that I have a problem with Google, I like many of the products they offer. I just prefer an iphone over a droid phone. And yes I've had both.

I can certainly see why someone would think Google might change, while I certainly hope they do not - I'd be lying if I said I hadn't had the same thought at one time.

Rome wasn't built in a day... the same goes for Google. It's been very smart in how it's led their business slowly but surely taking over aspects of anything it wants. What happens when they have it all? Time will tell.

Here's a neat little article I just read today that kinda goes along with this thread: http://www.foxnews.com/scitech/2011/08/15/apple-vs-google-who-will-own-tech-world/

I just read that and was wondering a lot of the same things....so what now for them? I sure hope they don't go as crazy as Apple. I hate the company they have turned into. Kinda curious of what they will be churning out now cool tech wise.

They went "evil" the day they went public and had to answer to their share holders. Now they are on a never ending quest to continue growth no matter what the cost.

They are going about it the right way so they don't turn into Yahoo and become stagnant.

AS for them turning into Apple, I highly doubt it. Apple has been acting this way since the first Apple I came out. They haven't gotten any better over the years.
