Hey guys,
I know it has been asked a million times but this is a little bit of a different question, and i didnt find anything for it on the search.
I am attempting to race my Savage, and i have it lowered with only 4 shocks and bow ties 40 series wheels. I also did the 4 spider mod with 3000 wt in the rear and I think 6000 wt in the front.

What is a good race motor, I'm on a budget tho. I was lookin at the sh. 28($120) or xtm 247($130)? I figure my truck can handle a good amount of power now that it is lowered and the diffs. I wouldnt mind a wheelie every now and then tho.

I also do a bit of bashin everynow and then.

Anything you guyz got to say?????????????

Go with the sh .28, those things are nuts and have brutal power. For the price you will NOT get an engine with more power. I have yet to hear/read about any complaints about this mill.

The 24.7 is a great mill, but does not have the same power as the .28.

BTW the 24.7 and the .28 are from the same manufacturer.

I would go with the 24.7. I run a Mach 26 for racing and find that it is more then enough motor for racing. The other bigger motors will out run me on the straights but some times those big motors become a handful in the tight stuff.

I also might consider an xtm 247 pro. a little much, but maybe. And i would like the engine to be a drop in and can take a roto start?

Thanx guys

Blamo, have you ever run a sh or xtm engine?

My father put 5 gallons through a 24.7 pro and it is just as tight as the day he got it. I put about the same through a reg 24.7 and its still tight as hell. Sh has been suprising the big name and big dollar companies. I'll bet they have a great showing at "the dirt" nitro challenge this upcomming week. Believe me you won't be sorry going with any sh based engine.

The sh .28 is a time bomb , go with the 247 pro and thats it, its pretty much like a ported mach .26 and no sh .28 will touch you!!!! oh yeah there a collari .30 ou now at 3.5hp but dont know anything about it! $300

No I've never run the 24.7 or the sh.28 or the Wasp for that matter. I know several people who have owned them and some liked them and some didn't. My point is this, you can't build a $30000.00 355 chevy Nascar motor for $5000. Those principles don't change just because the motor is measured in cc's. Quality motors cost a lot more to build. Quality parts and craftmanship come at a higher price, hence the term,"you get what you pay for". The other motors have their place, but don't expect to see the incredible power and torque that is readily available in the higher quality motors. Have you ever ran or seen a Novarossi .28, 8port or a Serio pro.27, 11 port run?! There's a night and day difference when compared to a sport motor like the Wasps, SH and 24.7's.
That's just the way it is. Ride in a $190,000. 04 Triptonic,Porche twin Turbo, then ride in a modded 04 Corrvette Z06, no comparison! Both have their place, but the Porche walks all over the Z06, ther's a big reason for the cost differance.

sgt blamo...i can see your point about getting what you pay for...but in this case a savage can't even get the power from a wasp .28 to the ground without fliping on its lid so why would you need more?
there is aslo how much power can the drivetrain take before it gets chewed up?
if you have thousonds to buy the high end motors and "try" to bullet proof your drivetrain and still have issues with tearing them up thats good for you

but most people are fine with "middle of the road" and still being able to do little things like eat & pay their morgage and buy their girl something once in a while

sorry for coming off rude just seen one to many "you need this $400 engine to have fun or if you want to be cool...because anything less is crap" threads

Sgt Blamo, I completely disagree with almost everything you said in your "you get what you pay for response." The poster asked what is the best engine for racing at a budget price. I have seen a Mach 26 run and yes it only $140 but it is a kick ass engine. When it comes to racing RCs its the same as 1:1 cars, driver is more of a factor than what engine is running. Have you ever heard the term slower is faster? Racing is all about driver skill and control. Your porsche vs corvette analogy is somewhat valid if the driver is experienced to even be able to handle those cars. But if you are a crappy driver then you will drive like crap regardless of what car you have. Having a more powerful engine will just mean you will wreck going faster.

I know you are very pumped and proud of your Rossi .28, and you have every right to, but do you really need to jump in on everyones thread and take a big fat dump on their engine?

wrong, some are offering an intro price of $209 I think one site but its gonna be between $280 and 309 when there are readily available!!!!!!!!

the thing that really sucks is, I've seen a mach. .26 hammer down on rb concept, and nova .28's before its really an experience issue, if you're good enough you can make a lower end motor out perform an inexperienced guy w/ the best high end mill such as a nova, I've seen it happen many times!a ported hpi s25 is capable of unreal power try it out!!

Hey Maxx, the collari is available and I picked one up at my LHS for that price. One of the other LHS also called me the same day and they were also selling for that price. So at least in California they are readily available for $209.

Just ordered the collari from RushRC. can't wait to get it in my ride. **looks around for a good leather glove** pull start should be fun.

Will keep ya posted and put up some pics when done.

Does the 247 pro have more bottom than the fantom 27 with the stock pipe and stoc gearing 15/49????
And by how far would the pro get killed on high end??
