the Hyper 8 is the new one out now......i would stick with a brand the hobby shops near you carry.....you can order most of your parts but if you need something in a hurry it's good to have a local option.....

Thanks for the info. I do think I'll visit the local shop and see what I can do with them before buying online.

Until then, looks like I have alot of reading to do.

Hello All,
I ended up spending some more cash and investing in:
8IGHT 1/8 4WD RTR w/TL427 & DX2
http://www.losi.com/Products/Features.aspx?ProdID=LOSB0081
Any comments on the purchase? I think with the spectrum and availablity of parts I'm in good shape to start this hobby....

The local hobby shop carries all part in stock which was a big plus for me.

A few things come out of my disscussions at the shop which I wanted to get confirmed before starting my 8IRGHT.

1) they sold me 30% fuel. The manual says recommended 20%. Not sure why he told me 30, actually I had 20% at the counter and he made me change it to 30%. Should I return for the 20%?

2) Glow plugs. He sold me an A3 and 8 even though it came with a glow plug installed. He told me to run the A3 for 5 tanks of gas then switch to the 8. Can someone please confirm this is correct.

Now that I have this puppy home, batteries charged, I wanted to get a few opinions/confirmation of my next steps. After reading the manual and the online posts I think this is what I need to do next.

a) turn on transmitter on car and receiver

1) Insert fuel into tank. (not sure how much to put in) Full / half or 20%. I have read a few different things.

2) insert the handheld engine starter. push button for 2 sec, then release.

3) insert glow starter and push

Engine should start

Move to break in and run 3 tanks of gas with the car basically doing ovals.

I am not sure if I am supposed to do all 3 tanks in one session or not.

If anyone can run over my steps here and let me know if i am on the right track that would be very helpful.

Thanks.

I think it was good choice, you should be happy with it.

That's always a plus!

In my opinion, yes, but how are you going ot run it, that is bash or race?
You should break it in on what you intend to run regularly in it. I think 20% is better for bashing and leave the 30% for racing.

2) Glow plugs. He sold me an A3 and 8 even though it came with a glow plug installed. He told me to run the A3 for 5 tanks of gas then switch to the 8. Can someone please confirm this is correct.

You will need extra plugs during break-in. I'm not sure on why he wanted you to use 2 different #'s. Possibly that the #3 is a cooler plug and will help keep temps down for break-in.

1) Read and understand the break-in instructions in your owners manual.
2) Look the car over, make sure everything looks to be in place and secured
3) Turn on transmitter/receiver
4) Check for proper operation of the servos/linkage and steering.
5) Fill'er up with fuel
6) Support car with wheels off the ground.
7) Insert the handheld engine starter. While holding you finger over the exhaust, push button for a couple of seconds to prime the carb with fuel.
8) Adjust trim on the radio to slightly open the throttle.
9) Insert glow igniter and push starter button.

Engine should start

Follow instruction manual for break-in.

You do not have to complete the break-in in one session. Let engine cool down between tanks of fuel.

For another good break-in method ,read this link

Racer - thank you for your input... I can't wait to try this thing on the weekend.
Yes I will exchange the fuel for 20%. I plan on just bashing around. No track racing.

Yes that is what he told me on the A3 it will run cooler for break in then the 8 for normal usage.

Could you clearify #4 and #8 those are the only two that I'm not 100% sure on....

I really appreciate your responses / help as a newbie to the field there is so much to cover.....

# 4 proper operation of the servos/linkage and steering basicly means when you turn the trasmiter to left the front wheels turn left, when you turn right the wheels turn right, and when you let go of the steering knob the wheels return to the center and also make sure the wheels at center are pointing strait, you may have to use your trim adjustments to center them up, as for your throtle/brake linkage make sure when you pull the trigger on the transmiter the carb opens and closes as you pull and release, and when you push the trigger it aplies the brakes.
#8 if you adjust the trim on the so that it starts to open the throtle just the slitest amount so the car will idle up a little bit..
