good evening folks,
hehee with the maxx i got how in the world can you tell if it is a original 2.5 2nd gen tmaxx or a .15 converted over ,,
i just bought all new centers and outdrives axles for it and the rear shaft is only about 1/2 way into the outer sleeve and the front tranny axles there is only about 1/8 gap showing between the 2 halves ,,and yes i converted it back to the plastic axles ,call me strange but never liked cvd's always broke or the pins slipped reguardless what i did to them,,so i do not like them ,
but anyway

how do i tel the difference in the 2 tmaxx's as in tell tlae signs
thanx
rick

The only obvious thing I can come up with is the throttle linkage tower. Look at it from underneath. There's a large center hole drilled in the chassis plate with the screw that holds it in place. Next to that there's a very small hole for the plastic pin from the tower that slips in there to align it.
Either that pin has been eliminated, and there's no hole, or it's larger, or sloppier than it should be by drilling it out and trying to line it up.

Tha only thing I can come up with is the old maxx is not as wide as the 2.5.tha 2.5 has widemaxx a arms.

rolex, i just looked and there is nothing like that on mine ,mine has the trx 2.5 engine and the ez-start 2 system, but i the only reason i am asking is the fact that the rear half shaft running fro mthe tranny to the rear diff looks like it is too short,,
just curious
thanx rick

They would be different. The distance from the tranny to the diffs is different from front to rear, and since you are using sliders and not cvds the difference would show in how far the sliders slide into each other. Look at the cvds you took out, one will be longer than the other one.

Okay, now it sunk in.....finally. I see you are adding the original shafts now. NCNitro has the final word on this. Just make sure you have the correct shafts mated front and rear.

ok,,when i took off the cvd's yes ,the rear was longer then the front,,and when i got my original shafts yesterday from a ebay auction ,(the add said new from a tmaxx 2.5)
i knew about the long and short cvd so i looked at the new sliders and both the same lenght ,the rear 1 concerns me due to how long it is and how much is actually inside the other ,,
understand ??
if i will try to better explain or try to get a pic
thank you all for your help ,,
take care
rick

rolex i just figured out the throttle servo arm thing you said about too,,i was looking at the actual servo placement, YES there is holes there 1 in front and 1 behind the throttle linkage tower
ok,,whats this mean????
lol

There is some slack in the shafts, but it sounds about right.

If the small guide hole is clean and tight, it means that it is an original, rather than a conversion to a 2.5. Factory drilled.

i was looking it over and was at a hobby shop today ,yeah it is a 2.5 and the rear bulkheads are allittle sloppy right where the diff holder goes into it ,so i am gonna get new rear bulkheads ..hopefully that fixes the problem , i am sure it will ,,
thanx to all of you that helped me out ,
take care
