I stumbled across a neat way to discharge your rechargable glow starter. Just stick a regular D cell flashlight battery in the end of it. It'll light up and discharge the battery. Probably not a major concern for most though.

What's sad is that they make battery dischargers that are just spruced up versions of what you just said and people will pay top dollar for them.

It works well, I have done this before with my sub-c batteries for my igniter.
