Ok what is the actual Idle bar? Is it the spacer the plug comes with? In a link I got here the requirements that my Ofna hyper 8 port requires is a long plug without the idle bar.

Thanks guys

Jon

the idle bar is found on the turbo plug.i think could be wrong..its not the washer although you do need to have one on there.run mc9 med plug or the mc59 hot plug. both are long plugs.

what manual are youlooking at? I talked to Ofna and they said either the MC-9 or the MC-59 would suffice.

the ultra lx pro for a .26 or .25 manual. it says not to use MC-59 or OS-8

Two different mills then mine. I am not sure still.I will need hands on experience.

An idle bar goes across the bottom opening of the glow plug (where the element is) and keeps raw fuel from splashing it when the car is idling to keep the plug from cooling off and stalling your car. Used primarily in R/C aircraft.

He said exactly what I was about to add. I have heard that a glow plug with an idle bar is not intended for cars, but I don't know why. Any info on this, anyone?

I run Fox Gold series long plugs in my Hyper 21 8-port and the engine works just great. Might try them.

As for the idle bar question, that was answered in post#7 by fourboltmain.

I think the actual piston would hit that idle bar. Please correct me if I am off. SKY you will probably correct me.Lol

Yes, I know what it's purpose is, I was just wondering why it is not recommended for cars.

Rolex, I was responding to the thread starter's (jon2) original question. To answer yours, I will confirm what jon2 posted here:

Some engines do not work well with the idle bar, and others just won't work at all. Those that do not work well; do not due to the engine's design and has to do with the internal porting and fuel burn characteristics.

Those that won't work at all are due to the design also, but have more to do with the actual physical clearance. In the Hyper 21 8-port, you will be clanging the piston head against that idle bar unless you get an aftermarket head that will take the idle bar style plugs.

Most RC car engines are not designed to take that style plug, but that does not mean it won't work. You just need to make certain to get the right style head and the proper number of shims to allow the piston to do its thing without clanging off the idle bar.
