I think that I may have identified at least one of my tuning woes. I have lost the sense to know which way the washer must face when you put it into the head. /...\ or \.../ Someone please help. I have found that my glow plug is almost always not very tight when I remove it even though I tighten down when installing it.
 
I'm sure someone with more experience will chime in, but I don't think it matters which way the glow plug seal goes. If mine gets warped I'll usually flip it over. So I'd try /--\
 
They are soft enough to seal when tightened. Just make sure it's still round, like this one...
