Hi all

this afternoons bashing, the truck wasn't quite making the usual growling sound, and stopped mid tank, had a look and the glow plug had blown, no worries, put in a new O.S number 8 plug in..

then after just half a tank it stopped again and had blown the new plug, after 5 mins??

also it can be a bit twichy when on idle, and generaly not quite sounding as it normally does..

any ideas??

sounds like its running to lean .....you have to adjust your needles to thetemp outside......if your glow plug looks gray and ashey it was running lean

I agree you're running too lean.

As a general rule of thumb, you should see a good stream of smoke comming out of the pipe under wide open throttle. If you don't see said smoke, richen up the high speed needle until you do. For the LSN, clean out the carb by running a couple of WOT passes, then let it idle. Start counting 1-1000, 2-1000, 3-1000, etc etc. The truck should load up with fuel and stop after about 20 seconds. If it takes longer than 20 seconds, richen the LSN 1/8th of a turn and try it again. If it takes less than 20 seconds, lean the low speed needle 1/8th of a turn and try again.

Other factors could include a broken gas tank or a clogged fuel system. I, personally, would check all of those things before playing with the needles. It sounds like the truck used to run ok.

Good Luck,
RobH
