i was pissin around last evening and decided to tear the savage apart and redo the diffs so it was all ready for when i got my mill running again, front was fine ,the guy i got it from used grease in it but whew had the 4 gear mod done already
tore the rear apart and found the pin to the left hub snapped in 1/2
is this a common problem with the savage and should i keep an eye on this??
or is there an upgrade i can install to take care of this for future reference

Haven't had a pin to break yet. Blew out a rear diff once. Waited to do the 4 gear mod. When I did do it, the housing was wore.

racin, was there any signs that the rod had snapped? any clicking or anthing of that sort?

well i can't honestly say bud
i just got the savy and it was in dyer need of a good going over so i tore it completely down and cleaned and inspected and while redoing the diffs i found it

ooooo, so you got the savvy used and before you drove it a lot, you tore down to rebuilt, clean and stuff like that right?

yeah your right red
i got it used and it was dirty as all get out ,gallon of fuel and never EVER cleaned or even blew off ,so i tore it down totally every pcs i scrubed and cleaned and reoiled an so on ,tha twas the only thing i found wrong with the whole truck besides a cracked shock tower and i have a complete set of everything plastic coming
so now i go a chance to rip it alittle yesterday and this thing is awsume ,i love it
should have bought a savy right away like i was going to

I just did the 4 gear upgrade to a used savy I got from my bro...only had about a quart throught it. No problems internally. Everything was in great shape. one suggestion though... add 30,000 wt. sili oil to the diffs and forget about grease... oh the power to the ground!!!

when i got mine it had the 4-gear mod done ,the cam type steering mod, daul disk brake kits all the goodies the SS has but the pipe ,
with the diffs i cleaned inspected and all was good he had grease and i used 5k diff oil in it and it seems really good now ,tires do not ballon or unload when cornering it just stays hooked up
my savy had allittle over a gallon thru it and the guy i got it from kept getting pissed cause he kept blowing spurs ,well upon doing a little research he was running this combo 15t/47t ,that just doesn't work unless you nitch the mount to move the mill closer ,i am now running 15t/52t and it seems alot better
kinda glad he did get mad ,i got rid of my tmaxx and i feel i got the better end of the deal anyway

Right on!!! My first was a T-maxx as well... It is gone now. Don't get me wrong, the maxx was a blast! But the Savage just rocks a little harder (so to speak) and I think it is a tiche more sturdy! I have two savys now and I am starting to convert one to a truggy style race truck. good winter project I guess. I will power this ripper with a ported Picco .27!!! Can't wait. My other is a 4.6 kit with a few upgrades and it has been a joy now that it has a Robinson Racing 16/48 bell & spur combo and aluminum clutch shoes. Rip it up man!!!!!!
