Ghost Flames

How do i paint ghost flames? What all do i need to do it? I have an airbrush.

Also what are 5 - 10 color that go good with fasred?

If you're going to do ghost flames, I'd suggest going with and ever-so-slight variation in color. So if you're using Fasred, just mix the red with a hint of black or white (and I mean a little. A drop would be too much). That will set it just a shade off the bottle color. Then mask and paint the flames and body as you normally would. Another option is to use something like Faspearl Red for the flames and FasRed for the main color. Remember, they're ghost flames. They should be barely visible...

Oh and another good thing is to get a color wheel or find one online. There are a few good sites that have nice detailed color wheels and also kinda explain to those of us who are just starting to get it (me....) how colors go together...

If you use Faspearl red, Would you back that w/ fasred to make the ghost effect?.....I'm a little behind on painting methods and don't want to trash yet another body......

What I would do is mask the flames and then mist them with Faspearl red. Don't paint the whole section solid faspearl. Just mist the outline. then unmask and do the whole body Fasred. At a distance, the whole body will look a uniform red. But up close you'll see the pearl flames. That would be a very cool effect.

i ended up with a "sort of ghost flame" effect, by shooting an extrememely light coat of pearl white on the stripes i laid out on an MT body... did it with a rattle can, holding the can about 24 inches from the body. then shot a coat of metalic black over them backed all in silver.

could barely see the stripes i masked for the pearl white. unless you changed the viewing angle or got right up on it. dunno if it would work for red tho.

If you mix red with white you will get pink. Then you can send it to JesseG for his pink maxx, lol.

A). This is next years theme for racing
B). MSR lids are hard to get
C). I got tired of my damn aztec brush and am ordering a Vl tonight

If you want the ghost flame look dont you want to get the color just a smidge off of the main color? If ya just add a drop to white or a drop to silver, isnt that basically a normal 2 tone flame job? Not meaning thats bad, I just know ya were going for a ghost flame effect.

No way more complex tham two flame paint job. Try about 6 or 7 colors. Flames are just apart of it. If i can find a lid i will paint it when it comes! I'm eager to paint.

you could also try the Faschange colors as well. I like those a lot. Maybe like Faschange Red with a normal red. just gotta make sure you don't spray the faschange too heavy or it will turn out white instead of transparent.

You can barely see the ghost flames I did on the back of the hood and on the roof.... HERE . I sprayed them with chrome, because its alot thinner and would mist better like CandyMan is talking.

You might also try that Chameleon paint, since it sprays so dang invisible, but might need to be backed with a shiney dark laquer.

As for what colors go together, you will eventually develop your own "team" colors that define your car on the track.

Be careful with the distance of yor can/airbrush from your "palette". If the distance is to great the paint can dry before landing. just fyi to keep in the back of your mind
