Hello all, i;m new to the forums! I currently have a revo (not 100% on the motor) that my dad purchased for me some years ago. Maybe 4 or 5. I used it for a long time until one day it stopped running.

It would idle but as soon as you gave it gas or reverse it would just die. I changed the glow plug and tried it. Wouldn't crank at all. I called the hobby shop it was purchased from and asked what I should do. He just blew me off and wouldn't really help me, short of having to bring my car there and leave it until the got around to fixing it. No..

So, alas.. the car sat.

I now have the car out of the box again trying to get it running. The fuel in it was no good, almost like an oily/gel after sitting so long.

I took the tank off and cleaned it, and I cleaned out the fuel lines. I put a new glow plug in (again) and it still will not start. It just turns over a few times and quits. I figured it was flooded from the bad fuel so I took out the plug again and turned her over and hit the starter. All kinds of gunky fuel dripped out.

I did this several times and more and more old fuel kept coming out. (my old fuel was yellow color and my new fuel is red so I can tell its the old fuel) This is pretty much where I am stuck. I have done this so many times that no old fuel is coming out anymore. The car is not pulling the new fuel through the lines, even though I primed the lines before re-attacking so I know they are flowing. Whenever I put the starter to it, it tries to turn over a few times and just dies again. Like its flooding or just has no power... the starter battery has been charged several times.

You need to tare the engine down, soak all of the parts in fresh fuel, clean them all up and seal the engine when you reassemble. Remove the carb needles before soaking the carb too. Jot down your settings. Read the tuning and flow chart at the top of the nitro forum. It explains sealing in detail. If you're using the ez start, ditch the blue and yellow wires and use a separate ignitor. The ez start glow ignitor is known to fail.
 
Thanks! I will start taking it apart soon (probably tonight or tomorrow) and post pictures as I go.

It needs a good cleaning anyway. covered in dust, some cobwebs and a ton of dirt.
 
Yeh I'm in the process of giving mine a clean, doing it properly takes ages :(, I'm just glad I don't have to rebuild the motor too. How much fuel did you get through it before it died? 1gallon, 10?
 
So, sorry for no pictures, but i have the car running again. After a lot of fussing and cussing and a couple days off and on of work. (and a ton of q-tips and rags)

The only problem I'm having now is getting the tuning right.

The car will crank, but i usually have to put my finger over the exhaust for a sec to get some extra back pressure (i guess?) before it starts.

Once it cranks it will idle, but it smokes A LOT. I can give it some gas but not much.

I'm back to the same problem I had before the car sat for so long. It will run on concrete very slow but bogs in the grass if I dont go very very slow or push it with my foot.

It is like there is no power, but it dies upon giving it gas. And like I said before, its smoking A LOT out of the exhaust.

any suggestions? (btw, by throttle needle and steering needle on the controller are at the neutral settings)

its up and running. took a lot of tunning air/fuel. she gets wide open and doesn't stall...

except..

after giving full throttle i have to be real easy slowing down or it stalls while stopping or slowing down/ turning to fast while wide open.
 
An old school nitro guy "new buggy glitch"

:)Hello, I'm new to this web sit, but not new to nitro engines. I have been a way from the sport for a little while. Decided to start up my old control line Sig airplane the other day. That smell of nitro in the air, got me going again. So I purchased a new RTR nitro Exceed 10Th scale Forza buggy. I had to adjust everything to get everything to work properly. Started up the engine and the clutch housing started smoking and was turning blue in color. I quickly put my thumb over the carburetor and killed the engine. I am not sure what happened to the kit. So I boxed the buggy up and called for a RMA number and mailed the kit back for an exchange. I can only imagine what would have happened if I had run the car the way it came out of the box !?!?!?

I don't care what you buy or how much you spend, their is always going to be issues with nitro or electric RC. I have seen some of the $2,000 dollar buggy's that have as much plastic as my Exceed does? Why? it's all about weight vs durability. Any manufacturer can have problems with their models. Depends if they were built on Monday (Hangover) or Friday payday with a date waiting. Hung over or Horne days will get you a turd every-time. I could have fixed all the problems but I decided not to. my neighbor has a Exceed Forza buggy with the new VT.18cxp engine. His car hauls the mail with a two speed trans. He has had it now for a little over two years with no problems at all. And he races and bashes it three to four times a week. he runs it on asphalt and never off road. he races it behind our apartment in a School parking lot with around 130 yards to play with. The new Exceeds and all the other brands are not like the old models that were junk with plastic gears and clutches. These new buggy's have ball bearings and steel gears. With 100's of parts for the cars and hop up parts also. I don't know? the reviews were good on the Forza so yes I bought one. It was on sale for $129.00 with a 10% discount on top of that. the total was $140.09 shipped. I'm sure they will send me a good buggy this time.
 
You're the one that came on here complaining about your lemon. Even jacking other's threads to get your voice heard. Now you're defending them. Interesting. Exceed is known for their brittle parts and lack of parts support. The hop ups are cheap pot metal as well. There's a reason we don't recommend them. You found out first hand. One of our main objectives is to not introduce new comers to the hobby by recommending off brand rc's that are built cheaply. There's also a thread on this site that has all the information needed to make a rtr vehicle truely rtr. No brand of rc is really ready to run right out of the box, this is true. But the difference between the off brands and name brands is light years a part when it comes to quality and part support.
 
well she is running still. I'm having trouble getting the tune just right. right now it seems to be running a bit rich. still a lot of smoke and a lot if gas coming out of the tail pipe.

if i lean it out even a little it dies. i have to keep the throttle trim(on the controller) at the 3oclock posituon just to keep it from stalling.

any ideas?

other than that the car is running great as long as i can keep it cranked and keep it from stalling when it slows to an idle

btw the car has a 2.5r and I'm running 20%. i have to get new fuel soon so should i get something different?

yes I'm the one, you need to do your homework before bashing products. When I've seen with my own eyes Exceed buggy's out lasting big money buggy's right outside my door. my neighbor hood guys all have different types of buggy's truggies and monster trucks. Some cost $1200.00 dollars and their parts break and are brittle. Some times you buy a brand name and not a vehicle. In our racing events in 10th scale buggy class most are are Exceed and mad cat with a few Atomic war head models. I seen all of them up close and they all have plastic and aluminum parts mixed to save weight. Yes plastic will get brittle bashing in full sun lite. I love every make of RC that's out their now, their all good in my book. You are comparing apples to oranges dude Dodie decode doge Now I will bow out because I have stepped on some toes so it seems so latter dudes. keep on bashing and trashing..... don't mind me I am a passing through I barged in on someones post and pissed them off OH so sorry Charlie for bashing your party post.We this and we don't that is all horse poop do your home work. Their is more parts available for Exceed than any other RC's out their bar none:p::third_place::second_place::first_place::\:whhooo:

No poop. Glad to hear you're up and running. Do you notice the engine being more sensitive to needle adjustments since you sealed it? You probably will. Leaks are common on Traxxas engines. You can delete the bs posts in this thread too I believe. If not a moderator will upon request.
 
@wcb it sound like you may need to richen the low side. Its sounds like after your high speed runout your crankcase has no reserve fuel in it to support an idle. high speed tuning can be very tricky.
