I might save up over the summer to get a used buggy how much dose the cost run and what brand is good that you can get lots of hop ups for?

I have a GS Storm rtr these are great buggys and is already assembled so its a beginner buggy and its my first one! I recommend it highly

For a used buggy, check the FS/FT forum as well as Ebay. There are some decent sales out there for around $200. But, I caution you. Sometimes you get what you pay for and in the long run it might have been better to save up and buy new. I'm not trying to discourage you from getting somethine used, just be cautious and do your homework. As far as which one to get.......check with your LHS and see what they carry for parts. What good is having a buggy that the only place you can get parts for it is from some internet company that's only open on Wednesdays from noon til
1:00. Parts support is definately important. Internet support is there for just about any buggy, but you need to know what you can put your hands on in a hurry. I'm a GS Storm owner and of course I would recommend it. But there is a slew of buggies out there that are just as good, many even better. Do a search in the forums for buggy choices or buggy recommendations. You get plenty of feedback. Cost to run ? I break it down into two categories. Driving style and quality of the buggy. If you're hard core racer/basher then it can get expensive whether it's in replacement parts that you've broken or upgrades because of stock pieces that you've broken. The harder you play, the more you pay. And buggy quality. If it's well designed, well engineered machine, it will be able to take the punishment better than the other brand. To make a buggy 'bullet proof' will cost you but choose those upgrades wisely. There's a reason we don't have Titanium wings.........we don't need them. There are alot of upgrades out there that you just don't need. I don't upgrade until I brake it. If the stock part is doing just fine, leave it be. The initial start up can be expensive but don't get crazy. Get the buggy, your basic support items (glow plugs, glow plug starter, fuel, basic tools, batteries, etc. stuff like that) and you'll have just as much fun, maybe more, than the guy with the u-haul full of stuff. Good luck on your choice and have fun !!

I'd be exceptionally leary of buying something with a used engine unless I know the seller personally. As a rule of thumb I will factor the engine out of the picture because regardless of what the seller says may or may not be true. I definately agree with M&M about just saving up for new buggy. The average price for a NIB RTR Storm on e-bay is under $400.

my lhs sells the storm rtr for 400$. i would say the best buy on buggys would be the hotbodies lightning (pro or the rtr) the pro is 300$ and then you ad your electronics, i forget how much the rtr one is.

Are OFNA and Mugen buggys good the guy at my hobby shop said if i get a buggy i should get the GS Storm. If i got one i would bash alot.

there are so many buggies to choose from. RTR or in kit form. Question is to build or not to build. Used buggies are cool but like EL P said the engine is risky if it is used. It is the buyers decision to risk getting a rinning biotch or a lemon. Do you have anything to put in to a used ride? like a radio and electronnics, or an engine? I have spent quite a bit on my Ofna PCR Pro.

Oh boy! Here goes another which buggy is better thread! Alright man... check out the forums... you should only have to go 2-3 pages deep in this forum to find about 10 "which buggy should I get" threads... just read those... there is a ton of good information regarding deals, spec info on different models, and lots of arguments of whats better than the next for various reasons (all opinionated of course). It all depends on what you want out of it, want it for, how deep your pocket book goes and so on. Like I said, there are TONS of these threads... you are better off probibly looking through those just because people get kind of tired answering threads like this time and time again (no offense). Check it out. Don't leave out the Swift either... check out the Swift thread and see just how good the support is and the buggy is awesome. Haha... I had to do it too... every one else does :trout:

I've seen some decent used buggy sales on ebay. It's true, you have to figure the motor as being no good, and if it's good you got a bonus =) Every single used engine on ebay somehow has "only a gallon or less" through it.

But a lot of the used buggies also come with a bunch of extras like spare parts, batteriy packs, starter boxes (I cannot stress enough how much you will want a starter box) and other such goodies.

The good thing is, if you get it and there's stuff broken or almost broken, there's not one single part on the entire thing that can't be replaced, and most replacement parts are pretty cheap.

As far as hop ups go, some of the rtr's right out of the box need hop ups in order to be reliable. Others, like a storm really don't need hop ups. Mine has literally been though hell and I can honestly say the only thing I have broken thus far is a lid and that's really a $20 part designed to add the most protection but still be expendable and exceptionally easy to replace. The engine in the storm has been said to be lacking but for a starter rtr buggy it can definately hold it's own.

Actually it's a thread about buying a used buggy am most people, myself included have told him that buying a used buggy can be dangerous and that buying a new buggy might be better.

While not wanting to leave out the swift either the simple fact of checking out the 600+ post thread about it does not seem too appealing. Personally I'd think about checking out that site if I was circumnavigating the globe where I would have all the time in I'd need to be able to sift out the "that's a nice looking buggy" posts and get into information directly related to the pluses and minuses of the actual buggy.

I wasn't saying that this WAS there yet... I simply said that most of these threads usually end up that way. You are very right though... it all comes down to how much you trust the person you are buying from when going with used... otherwise there are +'s and -'s to both new and used. Parts are generally cheap anyway for used, but you can count on problems and possibly missing nuts/bolts here and there.

Again... check out the link for the fact of seeing the support... not how good it is, I said that you can see how good the support is for it. You don't have to read the thing, good god... it would take you a week! I just meant that the support is amazing and they go above and beyond. As far as how good it is, there are many other threads and sources for that, you are right. Even the newest RC Car Extreeme has a review of it (and a good review at that).

Knowing what I know now about these things, I think that buying used isn't a terrible idea if you can get a good deal and a lot of the extras you'll need to buy anyways.

Like, if you got a Storm RTR used buggy for $200, but it came with the starter box, reciever pack and charger, glow igniter, and some spare parts, I think you got a good deal. Even if the chassis was warped, it's only like $50 for a new one. And if the engine is junk, you can pick up a new B01 on ebay for $50 or so. This is just an example, but it should hold true for most RTR type buggies.

I don't think that you necessarily have to know and trust the person you're buying used from; just make sure you get a good price if you don't because you might have to replace some parts.
