My wife is getting me a 3-spd trans for my Savage, and I'm going to get a new 3rd gear for it as well. Question is, should I change my CB/Spur ratio at the same time?

I would not worry about changing any gearing at all. You will like it though I know I did. My battleship of a Savage will really open up across a baseball field. I don't remember what S/cb ratio I am running right now...maybe 48/17? Sounds right anyway. The higher third gear really lets it stretch its legs out a bit in a wide area. However do expect to have to make a little bit of a shift point adjustment along the way. If you don't have a X style case I would go ahead and buy one because it is going to be a big PITA with the 25 style case pulling the whole transmission out to make an adjustment.

you will really enjoy this. I have one in my savage. The top speed is incredible. I am running 14tooth bell and 49tooth spur. It still wheelies like mad and reaches top speed around 40mph. You may have to adjust the gear change time slightly as i found 2 to 3 were very close to each other.

So it doesn't come in the X case? I have an X case with 2-spd gears in it right now, can i put the 2-spd gears in the 3-spd case and drop the 3-spd gears in the X case?

Id like to see/hear one of these shift at WOT.

If you have the X case already then you are fine. They will drop right into it no worries. I just wanted to make sure. My first Savage (still have) was a 25 which had the old style case. So to adjust the third gear shift point you would have to remove the ENTIRE gearbox and split it open....argh. It was a whole afternoon project to get the shift point set correctly. The X style you just pop off the top, pull out the gear set and you are GTG. I just read she is getting a whole tranny....ok N/M it SHOULD come in an X case. But if not then make sure you swap the cases to save hassle in the long run. But like I said it is easy either way. Oh yeah SNG I Love hearing them shift out as they are screaming across a field....pretty cool stuff.

Cool, my 2-spd is going into a trainer project for her, using a SH .21.

I have the 3 speed with the reverse module in an all alloy trans case.
It looks great. I recommend it. :D

I do not recommend the reverse module if you have a high powered engine. I have shelled the output gear in one a couple times with my LRP .28. They all went even with out using the reverse function. It was just a weak spot in the system and the power finds it and....pull apart the whole thing and start over. Ralph, yours should be fine for pushing around the living room with no worries of breakage.
