Ok I took my ntc3 for a bashing at a parking lot that I don't frequent and I paid for it!! I drove on it for about an hour and a half and discovered it had loose dirt all over it. I was so ready for a good race with my brothers ride that we kept going till we realized our gears were getting bashed up by the pebbles. Well my pinion gears weren't as bad but my second spur gear came loose and was barely hanging onto the shaft with one screw. I called it quits after I saw that. Looks like I will be paying a visit to the LHS to buy some replacement gears? Does anyone else make replacements in a different colors for the spur gears? Can I use different pinion gears from HPI or anyone else? If so what's a good combo for great accelleration? I know you need to gear low not high but any ideas? Thanks RCNT!!

the stock kimbrough gears for AE are the best spur gears u can buy. As for pinions - the stock team kit gears are the best al around, but u can go down 2 teeth or up 2 teeth for more or less accerlation.

THanks NA. How come I have seen WHITE gears for the NTC3 but Can't find them anywhere? I guess itmay just be for looks on the pic I saw then.

i have never seen a white spur gear for an ntc3 - I've seen a white nylon spur gear for the regular TC3 though

The place I saw the White Spur gear was on ebay . It was on this Ntc3 that Had aluminum replacements for every damn part you could think of..waste of cash.. I ggot replacements already but I have one problem NO MANUAL. looking for one now as we speak. taking it apart is easy but no chance reversing it!. I'll kepp you posted!

You had to pay to play at a parking lot? I'm confused? Anyway, that sucks. When you go to your LHS, get a spare for those instances. That way you don't have to call it quits so soon. Also, a leaf blower is a good option, too. I sometimes go to churches and ask if I blow off their parking lot, can I run my car. They usually ok it and I don't get messed with.

The samething happened to my gears, although it was not from pebbles, I never found any pebbles in my NTC3, but 1 of the gears game off the mounting, and now it go no where, so i am going to replace both spur and pinion.

Nitroaddict which gives you more accel? add2 or take 2? Does that mean I have to change out ally the gears, pinion & spur, or do I just change one?

I have wanted to change out my gears, but I have not been able to find any good tuts about gears.

Jon2 - u can download the entire NTC3 manual at www.teamassociated.com

Zoomer - changing the pinons does not require changing the spur gears.

The higher the pinion gear, the faster the top end, the less acceleration. Whever u change pinions, u have to change an equal number of teeth on both 1st and 2nd gear

NA I bought the 20 tooth pinion for mine and I asked if I had to change the spur gear for it. They told me NO! All the tuning should be made on the engine itself. What's up with that?

jon2 - when u change pinions, u dont have to change spurs. if u are using a two speed tranny, just make sure that u always chang both pinions, or else u will throw the pitch outta wack and shredd ur gears.

Also - remember, that changing even 1 tooth on the pinion will change the final drive ratio by a HUGE amount. if u are runnin 4.1/1 with a 17 tooth pinion. going up to an 18 tooth will change the drive ratio to almost 3/1 - u should fine tune with the spurs, do big changes with the pinions.

I have the HPI RS4 3 with the 2 Speed trans. This is the Shaft drive model. I want to change my gearing around, have 47/43 on the Spurs and 18/22 on the Pinions. Can I go to 17/23 on the pinions or do I have to move in the same direction?

NA you got me worried. You said I should change both of the pinions whereas I only changed ONE. I am using the silver 20 tooth pinion. what Should I do about the other pinion then?

MPM - no, u cannot do that, unless u compensated by changing the other spur gear too.

Jon2 - u should fix that right away, as it might be what is stripping your gears.

NA I stripped due to running them in a pebble infested parking lot...MY BAD!!! lol Like I said I only bought one pinion, are you telling me to go and buy the other one to change both on my clutch bell?

yes, u can't go up/down in number of teeth on one pinion gear, and not on the other.

Ok I bought the complet pinion set... which is the best combo for best acceleration and top speed?

the best all around bashing combo is actually the stock setup, lol. u will have to experiement on your local tracks for the best setup at those venues.
