I keep getting myself confused on gear ratios. So I am going to make my question simple. I have stock 49/15 on my Savage 25 right now. I was told to get a 53/15 setup for more wheelies. I was wondering how this change would affect overall performance.

If you could can anyone list all poisslbe gear ratios avalible and have their pluses and negatives? Thanks a lot!

OK, let's see if we can make this basic. Using the above example, you are starting with a 49/15 ratio. That's a 49-tooth spur and a 15-tooth pinion. If you go to a 53/15 setup, you're adding 4 teeth to your spur. That raises your gear ratio. By raising your ratio, you increase acceleration. Your car will be quicker off the line. The tradeoff is that you sacrifice top-end speed. So the basic theory is simple:

Bigger spur or smaller pinion=more acceleration, less top-speed
Smaller spur or bigger pinion=more top speed, less acceleration
