gear mesh problem

no matter how i attemp to get the gears to sit right i doesn't stay on my rc18 i have tried everything i can think of but it can strip a spur gear down in a matter of seconds, does anybody have any ideas?:angry:
 
steel spur...had to put steel on my stampede cause i put a 3.3 on it and it played hell on the plastic gears
 
it doesn't have a slipper and i have ordered oval washers for the motor mount to try and curb the problem
 
Take the motor out and see what the drivetrain feels like. Roll it on the ground and feel for any hitching or binding. Turn the spur by hand to feel what it's like. I'm inclined to think there might be some resistance in it somewhere and that's why the spurs are grinding.

If that's not it, just be meticulous about the motor. Make sure it's got good mesh. Make sure the motor is parallel to the center driveshaft and also level. Shim it if you need to. If it's off, that can cause stripping problems, too.
 
I fixed it thanks candyman for the instruction but as soon as i fixed that mesh problem i stripped the input gears in the rear aargh!!!!!!!
anybody got a spare?
 
Now i can't get the Input gear to mesh correctly with the differential i have taken it apart like 5 times what do i do
 
how is it not meshing correctly? Is it too loose? Did you by chance lose a shim or something that ultimately moved the input gear backwards?

BTW, I'm kinda guessing because I haven't looked at the diffs on my 18R yet, so I'm not sure how they're arranged.
 
i dont know because when its apart and I'm checking the mesh everythnig moves correctly but soon as i put it down and run it the gears start grinding, i dont remember their being a shim behind the input gear though?
 
If it is anythng like the vendetta there is no shims in the diffs. I had a problem where the inside of the rim was poked through and itwas rubbing on the axle carrierwhen the on throttle, it seemed as if there was something wrong with the diff making all sorts of wierd noises.
 
I screwed up about 4 sets of stock diff's in mine, until i got the MIP Superdiff set. No problems since then.
 
i just bought a complete new graphite chassis and set of gear cases along with a new screw set if this doesn't work then screw it, the whole shabang is for sale
 
It sounds like it could be that the rear gearbox may be slightly out of alignment. The other possibility is that you me need to adjust the amount of shims in the diff. I would also recommend the MIP super diff. It really takes abuse and is an inexpensive and effective upgrade.

LMAO.... apparently the spur did very well. :D

When your diff is assembled, push/pull on the pinion shaft and then the axle shafts. If you have any slack there, the gears will skip under load.
The gears might be fine, but the case might be worn if a bearing spun out. That will actually wear down on the plastic or aluminum eventually, but you can still save it by using shims to make up for the slack.

You dont have to go steel, just need to learn to mesh properly. I still have the stock spur in my slash, and that is after running a minimum of 20 3s lipo packs through it with brushless....... so no, you dont need to run steel, you didnt fix your problem, all you did was setup yourself for larger problems further down the line.
 
when you have a .28 on a rusty you can strip them smooth just by flooring it real quick
 
With a bad mesh and a locked slipper, I'm sure you can. With a good mesh and an adjusted slipper, the only thing to smoke is the tires. Rusty's are too lite to blow spurs off for no reason. They'll sit and spin.
 
ya if i run on dirt but if its on the street it will eat them. bobby has tryed to mesh them right and still striped it
 
ok, sorry quaart, forgot you know everything.......... even though the bl motors put out much much much more torque than a nitro motor, (no matter what size) forgot you know everything.
