here in the midwest the big thing is E-85 its 85%ethanol and 15%gas, funny/sick think is that when gas goes up 50cents a galon so does it total bull poop since its only 15% gasoline. tons of cars accept E-85 they are the flexible fuel vehicles they don't get quite as good of mileage as gasoline, but the price difference makes up for it, and when its under load, the mileage is better than a gasoline engine in the same situation, something to do with a longer burn time of ethanol this is just you every day grain alcohol, same thing that our wives get us when we get off work and put our feet up *cough*BS*cough*
 
Just got back from the pump and it was $2.99 & 9/10 ...WTF! mght as well call it $3! Glad I wasn't driving the truck. Gotta close my eyes more when I fill up the car. The price to fill up the tank gave me instant heartburn!
 
It's kinda funny because the Taurus is our "community mule" and we're always pushing the limit on who buys gas these days. 3 drivers and sooner or later someone is going to have to buy gas. So far, I'm winning in the "not buying gas" race ... lol.
 
i over heard a old guy in the store the other day tell another old fellow that he hasn't put fuel in his truck for almost a year,he was down to a 1/4 tank and was laughing about it.poor time to chose to fill it if you ask me..lol
 
Hydrogen cars, to bad the oil industry has so much power over our country, or else gm and others would look into hydrogen. Space shuttles use it, europe uses it.

Funny how the oil industry is making more profit this year then any other combined, in profit. I think it is all becuase all of a sudden every one went into panic over running out of gas. the oil companies are just as bad as the scams that people run when a disaster happens and take peoples money.
 
I remember during 9-11 gas went up to $ 5 a galon and our gov of IL (FINALLY DID SOMEHTING GOOD) went after every gas station that raised their prices, this however is a little more understandable since the supply and production is affected, in NYC gas supplies weren't affected but I think this is still total bull you do the math, if a barrel of crude (50gal) goes up $1 that means the price of unleaded gasoline should only go up 2cents instead it goes up 4 or 5 dollars a galon and we get a 50cent price jump totaly outta controll
 
there is more oil rigs in the golf then anyone could ever imagine in the thousands, when they talk about hurrican damage, meaning a couple rigs are out of service, that is no excuse to raise rates. We are sitting on more oil then what we will ever get out or the gulf, but lets raise gas because of the huricane. You used that excuse already. Theres too many people making way to much off of this and unfortuantly Bush who i back, except on this issue is also making a killing on oil prices. If it goes up more i would bet that they will be hurting themselves, by forcing us to find alternate fuel. Natural gas, hydrogen, ethanal, we all have but can't perfect because the oil industry has had way to much power over the USA. Its like wal-mart.
 
I just learned something new and shocking. 1 barrel of crude oil will only make 5 gallons of gasoline :wtf:

Doesn't seem right to me.....
Can they make a lot of other products out of the bi-products of that barrel as well?

Divide the price of a barrel by 5 and the numbers don't add up.

They do make other products from the same barrel but for some reason only 5 gallons of gasoline.

Fuel went up .18 a gallon here today and will go up another .15-.25 this week.
 
It hasn't changed here $2.44 for regular but I'm sure it's coming. My wife was just telling me how smart I am. I'm bitching about gas prices and I'm about to go from a 25 mpg v6 to a 18 mpg v8 LOL.
 
I was thinking it was the way it was refined? Got oil, diesel, kerosene, and gas coming out of the same barrel of crude? Seems like something else... Saw that on one of them thar Discovery channels. Can't remember exactly how it was.

Gas here went from $2.56 yesterday. To $2.75 this morning. To $3.09 by the time I went to work at 3pm! One thing that gripes my ass is that every gas station in town raises their price at the same time! Part of the stations may have had gas delivered today at a higher price. Not all of them!

Electric will be going up. Doesn't matter if it's hydro-electric, windmills, or fossil fuel of some sort. Natural gas will go up even though it has nothing to do with oil.

I guess I can make it on the gas. I'll bitch and moan a lot. Just drive 3 miles to work. Wife goes about 5. Both vehicles get about 14mpg. It's a hardship on some that are driving a long way and not making much money to start with. Saw the other day the goverment was going to do a study to see why gas prices were going so high? Wonder how much taxes they can put on gas to do one of those multi-million dollar studies???
We were buying fuel for equipment about 20yrs ago. If I remember right $1.09 a gallon? Taxes on that was $0.45? No road tax. Seems like the road tax was $0.15?

They used to have these "multi-fuel" engines. What happened to them? Didn't they run on gas, diesel, propane or kerosene? I was around one in my life. A 12 cyl Wakashaw. We never ran it on anything but gas, so I don't know how it ran on anything else.

Well guys, starting to feel real old now. Hope the gas prices don't put any real hardships on any of us. :cheers:
