hey guys, i am trying to figure out what is wrong here. alright, i have the crazy nut head for the XTM 24.7. i had taken it apart the other night to do a little cleaning job on it. then today i went to start it and it would idle for about 3 secs. and then die. so i keep trying. when i picked my truck up a stream of gas came out from underneaht my head.
so i went back and took the head off, there were 2 little brass colored rings on where the piston goes all the way to the top the the glow plug. so i took one out to see what that would do. tryed it and it did the same thing so i took the second one out and tryed that. nothing worked. and i can't figure out what is wrong.

The little rings are called head shims. You should use both of them. If all is as you say, it would seem that the head is warped or cracked.

When you put it on, make sure you tighten it up evenly just a little bit at a time going from one screw to the other in a star pattern.

Make sure that there isn't anything stuck to the head, shims or case while you are putting it together. also look to see that the shims aren't damaged.

Good luck.

I had the same problem after taking my head off for the first time. I accidentally bent the hell out of the shims (they are so flimsy) and, while it still ran, it ran like crap and i had nitro goo all over my engine. I replaced the shimms and all is well.

Star pattern is the best way to tighten.

ya, i thought that they were the shims, mine are all warped to hell. it aint my head neither because it is brand new.
