Gah...the brake cam

Ok so i broke my new savage x's red brake discs on rocks yesterday and bought a new set of metal discs to replace them. After taking the tranny out and getting them in and putting the truck almost all back together I pulled the brake cam out by axident and can't get it to grab on anything in the trans now...any suggestions? do i have to disasemble the trans???
