How long have you had this radio? Actually that no longer matters, since it's obvious that there's been some damage that would void your warranty.
Step 2. With the radio open, and turned on, squeeze the LED window at different points where the ribbon wire enters and see if the display gets darker. If it does, you have a problem with the contact points. Not something you can repair, but sometimes that will improve the connection and it will stay. In time, it might improve or it might get worse. If you can read it at all, just leave it as is. It will have no effect on the performance of the radio.
I don't want to take mine apart to see how it's made, but if there's a plastic plug at the end of the ribbon wire, you should be able to pull it off and separate it from the LCD window. Buff the copper contacts on the window carefully with a pencil eraser, and clean the long plug strip with tuner cleaner from Radio Shack.
