I have heard several people switch from the primer tank from the RS4 RTR to a "racing tank".
What are the benefits of this?

Where is the best place to get them?

I assume you prime the motor by turning the engine over while choking the motor.

Just to add to this - I have noticed the pulse lines on some of the cars I've seen pictures of is pretty long. Typically - in 2-stroke shifterkart/superkart racing, we try to keep the pulse line as short as possible to give it a strong pulse. I have seen it both ways in RC... anyone have any insight?

Damn, we musta missed this one.

A lot of people do switch from a primerless tank for one big reason. Primers have become notorious for leaking air. After you use it for a while, gaps can open in the seals and you'll have an airleak in the system. That's not good. You'll end up with a radical lean condition which might be hard to pin on the primer if you don't know where to look. Somewhere on the Interweb is a tutorial on how to remove and seal the primer from your tank. Same thing as buying primerless. I just haven't taken the time to look. Yeah, lazy, I know.
If you do go primerless, you prime the carb by putting your finger over the exhaust stinger and turning the engine over a few times. That will force fuel into the carb then you can just start it as usual.
As for the pressure lines. Well, I'm gonna have to opt out of that for now. We've had a few discussions about it, but my physics sucks tonight so I'll have to do a little research.

Oh, and on an totally unrelated side note, I saw that Matt Kenseth was running the same Carhartt paint scheme at Charlotte that you were running on your Intrepid. Thought it was cool...

thanks! good info - I'll have to search for the conversion - but if anyone has it - post it up again or the location.

This year's CASCAR Carhartt car had a different paint scheme than the 2005 season (which is the one Matt uses). I like the new one better actually.. here is a pic of our 2006 Carhartt Charger.

I still can't seem to find any good pics on the primer mod. But it's pretty straightforward. The primer is basically a straight shaft with a spring. The mod simply involves cutting the shaft right at the surface of the tank and then pushing it into the tank. Then flip the tank and shake all the primer bits out of it. When that's done, find a very short wood screw or something about the same diameter as the hole left in the tank and seal it up with some Shoe-Goo. Should be good to go then.

And I like the new scheme. The barbed wire is awesome.

If all else fails, hpi sells a primerless 65cc replacement tank. I put one on my rs4 mt2. (same basic chassis) They also offer a primerless 100cc tank that I just installed last night. I'm not sure if the 100cc tank will fit with your 2 speed tranny though.

The barbed wire scheme rocks!

I think I might try the mod - seems easy enough... I'm sure you can use that JB plastic weld to fill up the hole too - it bonds well with plastic.

oh.. and thanks for the compliments :) Hopefully sometime soon I'll have a new race car, paint scheme and sponsor to post up!
