Hi guys/gals.

Any of you that run a Savage XL with the K5.9 with home blended fuels tell me what nitro % and oil % you use?

I've been running with 20% nitro, 10% Klotz/Castor mix and would like to know if I increase the nitro content to 30% do I need to raise the oil content.
If anyone can steer me in the direction of a fuel formula listing, that would be awesome!

I'm very new to rc cars.

I did run about half a tank of my nitro boat fuel (50% nitro/20% oil) through it, and it was uncontrollable!

Thanks in advance.

Almost all big block engines will run better on 30% Nitro and 10% oil. Any more oil than that just creates heat and leads to an improper tune. The oils made today are outstanding. As long as you keep the engine clean, tuned properly and in good repair, it will last a long time. All you need to do for 30% fuel is richen the engine up and start over on the tuning process. It should run cooler and stronger with 30%. You can also run a slightly cooler plug for more upper rpm and cooler temps.
From what I know about these mills is they are made with poor quality materials. If you have 2 gallons on it, it neeeds a new set of bearings for sure. Boca and TKO make very good affordable bearings that will free up even more power, especially ceramic bearings.
50% nitro is way too much, you would need to add head shims to keep it from self destructing.

Thanks Scrogg!
I'm going to move into 30% nitro after another couple of tanks and see how it goes with the slight mods I've done to it today. I will keep the oil mix the same, I run 2% Castor with my Klotz, and I add 3% acetone to the methanol if I can't get hold of Castrol M racing methanol.
Cheers.
