I've been wanting to contribute since I'm on this site all the time. But everytime I remember to I don't have the funds at the time. Therefore I'm sorry to all the fellow members. I do promise to help out soon as possible. I'm very very upset that I can't get in to the site. In the past 2 days, this is the second time I was able to get in. And what sucks is, when u move from one thread to another the DAMN mesage comes up and I'm locked out. So if anyone has questions for me please email me at [email protected]

That would definitely solve some of the bandwidth issues. :sneaky:

Well I pay-pal'ed the last $2.30 in my account. It's not much, but if we can get 50 members to do that, there's the bandwidth bill for the month.

**edit**
If I had more I would send it. Just doing what I can I figure evey little bit helps?

Indeed it does, and thank you.

Personally, I think all the problems must be related to the weather....it must be lousy EVERYWHERE. People are crowding the site with questions like "How fast does it go?" or, "How do you take the wheels off?" instead of ACTUALLY running their cars...sorry for the rant.

I'm using less bandwidth.

Hey all you AOL users. If you didn't know this already, you can post your pics on there for use here. They support remote linking. I just tested it out, and it works. You get 2mb of storage per screen name for a total of 14mb.

I have probably sent that exact amount before and less. When my PP account gets low I empty my change (dollar or two) into RCNT just like I take the change out of my pockets at the end of the day and set it on my dresser. Sorry for all the change WoodiE :)

Hmmm, I for one am full on willing to help out the site in about two weeks when I get paid again with actual money. As for right now I can offer this. I purchased some webspace about a month back and have actually been trying to get all of my pics off of this board anyways. If someone would be willing to help me in the mean time figure out how to actually do it I'm all about it. I have a webhosting plan but have no way of figuring out how to actually use it. I have tried and tried to get it going but to no avail. I would be willing to donate a domain if necessary as well. It's actally a good little plan. Here's the specs

Bandwidth: 0.00 MB of 25000 MB
Diskspace: 0.09 MB of 5000 MB

I love this site.

I've been given tons of great information. I try to pass on what information I can offer. Granted my useful posts are probably in General Nitro or T-Maxx but that's all I own and I'm happy with it.

I tend to go overboard with the images sometimes but I like my digital camera and I host my own images. I don't know what bandwidth my own site uses but I'm pretty sure a good percentage is all those hoggy images I'm posting. (A picture tells a thousand words, right?)

Some of my traffic is my Best RC Links Anywhere page. I have to feel pretty flattered when my page is number one on the RCNT links page.

When I post a request for some parts I have members sending me PM's offering to ship me pieces at no charge! How friggin' cool is that?

I got a coin for the hat. This place kicks ass.

Here's a corny analogy for ya: Why go to another site? This is like the 'Cheers' bar and everybody knows my name.

Besides, I'm almost to a thousand posts... I'll try not to leave too much spam in my wake.

You would need to login using a ftp program to upload content. Or if you have frontpage and it supports front page extensions you could use that.

I keep reading all these posts that people are going to stop posting to save bandwidth - STOP saying this, your not hurting the site by posting, in fact you help the site when you post.

Images that are hosted on another server (not RCNT) does not effect RCNT's bandwidth - it effects your's. If you have images on another server then by all means feel free to post them.

DAAAAAAVE!!!!!

Just making you feel at home...

Here's a view coming from someone who barely knows the difference between a band-aid and bandwidth. I guess the English version of this whole thing is that we're too popular. Hmmm.. So...the simplified solution. Spend less money to run the site or bring in more money to run the site. I do partially agree with donations. I did donate once so far. And I think it's good support for a site like this. But I do feel it would be difficult to maintain the popularity if you require that people donate regularly. I like the thought of sponsors for a few reasons. It certainly would look really good to see that major players in the hobby are recommending us. But I do worry then about who really controls the site. Advertising is always a good idea. I guess it just requires some selling. Perhaps if some of us can pass the word to local hobby shops or manufacturers that we have access to, we might be able to get them to advertise here. No company is too big or too small. I for one do use RCNT advertisers when needed. I have used GameSpot in the past. And I have at least browsed other advertisers sites.

Just some free thinking. Probably doesn't give any good ideas.

Oh, WoodiE, since you fired Fast Eddy and SkyMaxx, does that mean there are mod spots open??????:hehe:

LOL, stop posting to say you're not gonna post.

That's true. Here's a tip, if you see a pic that has the RCNT logo embeded in the lower right corner, then it is taking up RCNT bandwidth, if the pic doesn't have it, then it's taking up someone elses. One 50K pic is worth a couple of pages of html per view.

If you have a pic (like one for the babe thread) and don't have any hosted webspace, PM me or anyone else that offers to donate some space to help out the cause. This does not mean sending money. Simply email the pics, I (or someone else) will upload them and email the link to the pix back to you so that you can post in whatever thread you desire.

Gallery pix of rides and interesting stuff are still cool, but it's the ones that get linked into threads that eat up bandwidth. This has been pointed out in past posts in this thread, reread if it's still unclear.

UPDATE ON SERVER STATUS
===============================

Ok after talking to about a dozen people last night on the phone and even more via email and PM's - We've came up with one or two things.

1. The Gallery is not going anywhere - it is however going to be locked down more so then in the past. Members have in the past had 2megs of storage with the largest file uploaded 2megs as well. Well when someone uploads a 2meg or even 1meg file that kills us in bandwidth - say someone uploads a 1meg file and posts it in the forum, that thread gets viewed 100time (more likely viewed much more) thats 100megs of bandwidth, and thats also not couting the people that view it IN the gallery. So the gallery has been limited to regular members so the biggest file that can be uploaded is 70KB which is more then twice as large as what most people recommend images to be. As well as the storage cut back to 768KB. Site Contributors have also been changed a little, in the past we've allowed contributors to upload files as big as 8MB's! This is now being changed to 1MB though they will have a storage limit of 8MB.

2. RCNT may be looking for 2-3 people to recuit advertisers workign on a commission based system and oppurtinty to receive products for review. On top of that we're looking into Google's ADSense which pays site admins a few cents everytime someone clicks on the ad - you don't have to buy anything, just click. RCNT will NOT support Pop-ups or pop-unders, nor email spam.

3. We are looking at dedicated servers right now, so far we've got our eye on a few. All running Pentium3 or higher with dual 80GB hard drives and anywhere from 500-1,000GB of bandwidth. The costs however are about $200 a month.

4. Yes we are also looking into a site sponsership as well, though my biggest concern is not turning RCNT into some biased company - I like the fact that everyone is allowed to say Company XYZ is awesome, Company XYZ is the worst company ever. I like truth, and I'd hate for that to change.

Just a little FYI and I'll keep everyone updated.

Ohhh yeah, the babe thread died as a very large deal of those photos where from the image gallery, most all being over a meg and larger in size and the thread had 4,000 views - thats death in bandwidth language.

Feel free to start another one, but do not post images from the gallery, link it instead.
