Hey folks, I have a quick question.

I got my Savage X 4.1 out today and at the end of the 1st tank, the truck was only spinning the front tires??? I took the top tranny cover off and took the two speed gears out and can spin the idler gear and only the front center shaft will turn. So I'm guessing that I need a new idler gear, but I'm wondering what causes idler gear failure?

I was tuning the HSN at the end of the 1st tank and the truck wasn't pulling wheelies or anything, it was just running strong and shifting perfect :)

I'm hoping that a few of you will chime in on this one as I haven't ever seen this.

Thanks,

J.T.

So upon further review, the idler gear is missing a few teeth and the screw shaft is missing lol...

What do you guys think of the light weight idler gears? I know they don't do well in the Flux, but how do they hold up in a nitro?

I've had a savage for 10 years and i havent had to change one YET.

Yeah, that's why I was wondering if anybody has had any issues with idler gears. I ended up shearing off a couple of teeth lol

I've got it back together now and its running great, just need the rain to leave Colorado so that I can take it to the dirt hills and bash it :)

Its still raining here in Colorado :(

But the tank that I got to run through the truck after replacing the idler gear was awesome... Truck is sooooo ready to be bashed :)

I would have to say that one of the best tips I have picked up on is sealing the engine and the carb and that the o-rings on the carb needles really seem to like AE Green Slime... My engine is starting awesome now and the throtle repsonse is wicked.
