I just finshed the build and my wife told me that we should start putting money away for a house :(

I have a 4.1 but I really want to fire up the 4.6 :)

I was impressed with the fit and finish on the SS, I try to build a new kit once a year to keep busy. This was my first Savage and every part seemed to fit like it should and it was cake getting it all together. I wish more companies would put kits out like the old days... Traxxas messed up the whole hobby with the RTR stuff...

Great looking trucks! I'd like to get me Savage. Been thinking about busting my brushless cherry on a Flux HP....

I agree kits are where it's at. I've never purchased a RTR model and then run it straight out of the box. I completely disassemble any new model down to a bare chassis and reassemble everything just so that I know a) how everything on the model works and b) that everything has been assembled properly and tightened properly. This always makes for a better first run experience than trying to go out and start bashing on a truck that Pedro put together for 2 peso's an hour.

Thank you, I love bashing a Savage, there isn't anything like it...

Yeah, I think the RTR has ruined the hobby, kids get a new car or truck these days and don't learn anything about it. My first kit was a Kyosho Big Brute... It was awesome to build and learn about hop ups ect. I ran the mechanical speed control til it burned up and then saved my money up for an esc. It was great going to the LHS when I was a kid and seeing new stuff and thinking how hard it must be to build this or that lol, now I look forward to building the Tamiya kits and making them look real :)

Traxxas makes some cool stuff, I just don't like the fact that it comes built and already has a radio, people get tired of selling cheap RTR radios on the forums... Most people in the hobby have a nice 2.4 radio...

I also wouldn't mind having a Flux, they look awesome.

Thanks for the compliments

I figure I can have a lot of fun with the new 4.6, I'm thinking it will run a lot better than my 4.1 as I don't know really how much time my 4.1 has on it because I got it used.

I'm excited and can't wait for the weather to warm up so that I can start break in and paint the body.

I'm having some issues with the oneway bearing on my 4.1 and was thinking about sealing the engine and just replacing the bearing with a new one instead of doing the mod, "which I don't think can be done on the 4.1?"

Any thoughts or help would be appreciated.

You'll find that almost all the long term members here are builders or re-builders, from the bottom up. That's what the hobby is about.
A lot of guys who buy RTR want to do wheelies out of the box, then lose interest when they have to 'waste' time with a break in and then have to fix something after hitting a curb flat out.

Funny you say that Rolex, i used to bling every truck i bought, now i leave them stock and never have to fix anything or order parts. I sat around for 3 hours today looking on tower for something cheap to buy so i wouldnt feel so bad paying 8 bucks shipping on 17 bucks worth of SCREWS :)

it sucks, but the damn screws can't be found in Lowes... I know they do that so you will have to buy them from the manufacturer...

I wish every rc out there was a kit , me myself I've never bought a kit I've only bought a slash , flux , and traxxas mustang which were all rtr but I constantly rebuild my rcs for maintenance and cleaning but a kit would be nice

What I really dislike about RTR is that you don't know who built it... It takes more time to tear down a RTR and put it back together too... I really wish companies would just release both RTR's and kits. I think I would really enjoy building a Traxxas Revo or Tmaxx from the ground up.

When I was younger and Traxxas started really pushing the RTR stuff, I was working at Hobby Town and it made me sick seeing how many RTR Stampedes, Rustlers and Bandits the shop would order for Christmas... Then a few months down the road, kids would come in with a broken R/C and the shop would charge them to fix it. Families end up spending more money buying RTR's in the long run... If little Johnny wants an R/C car or truck, he should have to build it lol

Don't get me wrong, I understand that kids under 10 don't really want to or might not have all the skills needed to build a kit, but this can create family time... My Dad helped me when I was younger and he didn't even really like the hobby. Now we both enjoy the hobby together and spend time racing and doing maintenance on our R/C's.

I know I'm beating a dead horse with this but I honestly feel its B.S.

I finished the body today, just need to seal the engine and break it in and then bash it :)

I can't wait to fire it up...

I get my extra screws from ace hardware. They can get them in stainless too. Just bought a box of 3mm x 10 for $6.25. Check around in your area. Nice truck btw!

Thanks granjer,

I stopped at the auto parts store today and picked up some Permatex Ultra Copper high temp RTV :)

I should have some time tomorrow to take the engine out of the 4.6 and seal it up and then add the Roto Start backplate and fire it up...

I need to seal the engine in my 4.1 too. I also stopped at the hobby shop today and picked up a new oneway bearing along with a few other goodies to get the 4.1 up and bashing again :)

Fricken OWB's are spendy... LOL

I can't wait to get both of my trucks fired up, just have to be patient though, it's my sister-in-laws Birthday and we are all hangin out...
