I just got my Picco installed finally and started it up to break it in, the funny thing is that it started on the first pull after primeing it. It was running at a fast idle just like it says to and it was very hot to the touch, I dont have my temp gun here its at work but it will be home tomorrow. I richened it about 2 1/2 turns from flush on the HSN and it was still way hotter than it should be. Anyone have any ideas? All you guys with the Picco's that have run them how did yours act? When I installed it I had to rotate the fuel inlet and the throttle linkage ball could this have changed anything? I am running a high volume air cleaner and the stock Savage exhaust for now. Help...

I just recently read a review that stated there is a possibility of fragments of rubber being clogged up in the needle assemblies. And from looking farther into, a lot of pros take down there brand new engines as soon as they get them. To inspect for QA oversights etc..
Anyhow, most would at minimum, take out the needle assemblies and make sure the o-rings are seated properly. If you decide to grease up the gaskets, white lithium (lightly coated) will work fine. Otherwise make sure it is plastic friendly first. The carb would also come off and be inspected. Before its ever fire up once.
After talking to a few long time R/C pilots, they all do the same. Inspection, cleaning and light greasing work before the first start. Probably something I will do from now on.
You can, in the meantime, richen the needles more if need be. Just find what works best for the mill. If no needle setting gets you where you need to be, then definately take is apart and check.
With mine on order, I plan to take it down at the carb and needles as soon as it comes in.

here, do the water test. Drop a droplet of water on ur heat sink, if it evaporates in 1-2 seconds its fine. if shorter its overheating.

I got the first tank through at fast idle the exhaust was nice and cool and very wet. What is the proper place to take a temp reading with an infra red gun? My exhaust was so cool but I was getting a reading of 270 deg. F. by the glow plug, it was 200 at the top of the head under the cooling fins. I think the lower reading was more accurate judging by the the exhaust temps and how rich I have it. Any input. Will continue breakin throughout the weekend hopefully it will be up to speed by Sunday!!
You will want to take the temp around the glo plug area. Sometimes I even temp the block itself.
I found that the header will be hotter and the pipe will be even hotter than that.
So I just stick with the mill itself around the glo plug.

Around the plug. Thats the best place IMO. Right under the bottom cooling head fin is also good if you have an onboard temp gauge.
I've seen some mills crank up to 270 comfortably after a high speed wide open throttle bash run, so anything around 250 reg. running is good for me. 230 like Twizted said is exactly what the doc would look for. The perfect temp
