I'm looking at installing a foc. Can anyone suggest a good one other than the Traxxas version? Pros/Cons?

Thanx in advance.

Pros: Smoother operation, less lag time, less weight, fewer moving parts.

Cons:
No reverse, more stress on transmission and drive-train.

Prober and looser adjustment of the slipper clutch is a must as well as proper mesh adjustment.

I have used the TRX FO and haven't had any issues with the performance or quality, however I haven't used another brand to make any kind of comparison.

IMO once you use a FO you wont go back. I like it a lot.
Can you say: " Instant Hook Up"

I was also considering doing a foc and wanted to know the pros and cons as well, thanks Eddy. I have just not wanted to give up my reverse, but if the power is that much more noticable I think I will have to do it.

More than the power is the INSTANT engagement and 'launch' off the line. I used Robinsons Racing RRP and love it. The entire tranny internally is also RRP.

No more 'jitters'

Never going back.

Hey Christian (or Sky), are the RR FO gears metal? And if I'm running a plastic spur, would metal gears not put more stress on it (ie should I then get a metal spur). I know the debate over the two, and think for now I prefer plastic.

I'm also in the market for a new pipe (I'm thinking MIP stinger) and Ti turnbuckles, so want to stay as cheap as possible. The Christmas $ only stretches so thin.

I'm kind of partial to my reverse (so I can't really comment on the FO kits out there)...helps me get out of those really muddy situations. But I can say this, metal gears in the tranny are not a bad thing. Just makes the tranny stronger. Just be mindful of the fact that whatever you make stronger, means you need to carefully select your weak link. I run metal gears through out and have my center drive axles as my weak link. Just ask Pirata, I overtorque those things almost everytime I run. They are cheap and easy to replace...much less time and money than say the tranny, or any part of the drive train involving gears to replace or repair. For five bucks I have a bag of twenty stock plastic drive axles...cut them to length and put them in. Piece of cake.

well what i did because my reverse was medded up i took the shifting servo out and just zip tied the rod to the chassis it works and it cost .05$ ahahah not alot like a foward conversion

The RRP FOC kit is metal. I also replaced everything else I could in the tranny with RRP. Like Sky said though, pick a weak link. I chose the spur. Even though the spur ring is plastic (I run the RRP double disc slipper kit) I have not blown one yet. Good mesh = long life.

I like the RRP.

:spidey:

I just used a little bit of ProLine extra thin bearring oil. I crack it open once in a while a look for wear but other than that, no.

White lith (VERY LIGHT COATING) should be fine. Just make sure you seal the hole from the servo arm once installed. Prevent dirt from getting in. Dirt and grease with metal is bad.

I still trying to find "Z Powder". My father used to get it but I have never found it for sale anywhere. Was a great dry lube!
