Forward only conversion on T-Maxx 4910

Hey guys I have another question for you. I have what I believe to be an original T-Maxx 4910. It has a Megatech M-16 engine, but from all my other research it is the oldest style truck. It does have the black transmission and battery box, which is what lead me to believe it was the 4910.

My question is which part do I need for the forward only conversion? I have seen Traxxas part #4994X which is only a shaft and a single gear from all the pictures I have seen, but all the FOC kits for later T-Maxx's and Revo's, such as part #5394X, have multiple gears with them. Is this the correct part?

4994X is the correct shaft and gear for the black transmission forward only conversion. It is all that’s needed.

Alright that's great news then. Does that part come with instructions? I am fairly mechanically inclined, but I don't want to go in completely blind.

Most often it comes with instructions. You simply remove the stock lower shaft and gears along with the shift fork and idler gear and replace with the FOC shaft and gear.
