I've got a 5309 and never can get reverse to work so I figured I'll pull it. Question, would I be better off getting a tranny from a 5308 on ebay or the FOC? Pro's and con's?

FOC, it's cheaper and the 4909 has the same tranny as the 4908 except for the FOC is already installed.

idk i like having reverse just in case i need it also when i go kite flying it helps to have reverse

Not sure what kite flying and reverse on an RC car have to do with each other, but I'm sure the reverse is nice for that.

I prefer the FOC. I had reverse for about a month, ditched it for the FOC and will never have reverse on another RC of mine.

The Foc is an easy upgrade. I just did it on mine and the whole process was finished relatively quickly.

reverse can screw your trany up it has for me once. you get more speed with the foc

Can you unhook the reverse or opti drive without installing the foc? Just to eliminate reverse??

you can but it be the same as leaving your car in forward gear stuff will still go wroung and there is that extra weight

Yes you can, if you do that you can go ahead and remove the opti-drive and the servo that controls the forward/reverse selection. That will be a small weight savings, but removing the gears in the tranny by installing the FOC will reduce a lot of the rotational mass and give you more power to the wheels. Like qaart said, with all those gears still in there, they can cause a problem down the line.

I stil miss my reverse on occasion but I have noticed that as my driving skills have improved the need for reverse has diminished substantialy. The reverse gears in the newer style tranny get chewed up and the opti drive in my opinion was a failer.

i always thought it was cool to have reverse but it needs to be built better
