What is the advantage of certain foams for crawlers? what is the best trim pattern for the foams? should i weight my tires?

I know, I know, newbie questions! but hey, guess what. I'm a newbie to crawling! I honestly have no clue when it comes to crawling tires and foams, so any help or a point in the right direction is gratly appreciated!
 
i have proline memory foams wich in my opinion are perfect, u get maximum skwoosh and plenty of bounce back from them, i also have two 1/8th inch holes drilled in each wheel.
 
I would go with THESE foams. I try to get each of my front wheels to weigh about 13oz each with these weights. I do not run any weight in my rear wheels. As far as cutting the foam, I do not cut memory foams.

But how do they side hill ?????

well actually chip now that u mention it they skwoosh to the side really bad, still work but are those foams u linked to better in side hilling?
 
those look great! but say i wanted to run some stock axial foams for a little while. what would you recommend? eventually I'm going to get new tires/foams, but first i just need to get this thing up and running
 
^^^ everyone seams to do a star pattern in the stock foams. and if u weight em down, use weights and not bb's cuz they are really annoying.
 
I would reccomend running pro-line memory foams over the stock star cut foams. A set only runs about $14, and its WELL worth it. Then later on when you can, you can get some hybrids if you want.

I only use stick on weights on my wheels, I don't like my rig sounding like a baby rattle, and I also find the much more consistent.
 
+1 on the weights. And I'm running the stock foams with losi rock claw tires, and i have no probs. but then again i built mine to screw around with, not to compete.
