I recently destroyed my clutch shoes and Spur gear on my savage ss.
I am assuming I did something wrong when I assembled the clutch. Now when I put everything on on tighten the screw on the end of the shaft the clutch bell will not move freely. My question is how far back should the flywheel be. Should you still be able to see some of the brass collet? Perhaps I need to add adittional shims to the brass bushing on the end of the shaft?
Thanks

You may either need to add a small washer on the end of your shaft just before the end screw or remove a washer from inside the cutch bell (if there is one) . The problem most likely is that the screw is tightened up against the bearing causing it to seize.

That's right, robriguez is correct, you might need to put a 'shim' which is a very thin/fine washer that you can put in between either the inside of the clutch beel where the bearing sits or outside with your screw. As you know the clutch needs to move freely, the shim will stop your CB screw from overtighening.
