I am new into nitro cars. I just got brand new Savage XL and try to run it first time. I followed all instructions as closely as possible to crank the engine but still the car does not start. What I noticed is that the flywheel is very sticky and when the piston reaches the top dead centre I cannot turn the flywheel by hand anymore.
I found this post which resembles my problem. https://www.rcnitrotalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=93595&highlight=flywheel
They suggest to run 8-9 tanks before it start loosening up but I cannot event start the engine.
All is well charged (roto start , glow igniter)
The glow plug and igniter work ok too.
Many thanks for any suggestion.

Are you using the RTR hpi ignightor? Its a POS and impossible to tell if its making a good contact with the plug.

Get one with a power guage on top, it lets you know when you have a contact.

The compression is high, loosen up the glow plug a bit, keep in mind to tighten it back up after it gets started.

You more then likely have flooded the engine from repeatedly trying to start it and not getting lit.

Follow these step from another thread helping a guy with a flooded engine.

Make sure your throttle linkage is correct and you are at 0 trim.

""""Insure you start with a fully charged Roto-Start, and Ignightor. Check your plug is good, and have a spare plug on hand.

Step 1
leave the plug out then tilt the truck on its side and turn it over a few times no fuel line attached, wait a bit and repeat. do this 5 or 6 times, if fuel spits out, keep emptying fuel until it stops, but continue after to clear residual fuel vapors.then pop back in the plug and still with the fuel line NOT connected turn her over.

If she turns over real easy, go to next step.

Step 2
If she turns over, put the ignightor on and STILL with the fuel line NOT connected, try to start the engine, give it a few tries, and repeat this for a minute or 2. Never holding the roto running for more then a second.

If she doesn't turn over pops the breaker, go to Step 1. If she turns over real easy, or momentarily fires up, go to next step.

Step 3
Put the fuel line back on and fill your tank. Pull the return line off the tuned pipe, wipe it down real good & blow into the line, until you see fuel go out of your tank along the fuel line and up to your carb, stopping as soon as the fuel hits the carb, reattach your return line. Put your ignightor on and Fire It Up.""""""""

If you keep getting flooding issues like this and you have not touched the needle settings, then the default settings may be too rich for your location, turn the HSN 2 to 3 1/8 turns in (clockwise) and keep trying. IF you ever hear "Chewbacca) its too lean, but I really don't think that's your problem, so 2 to three 1/8 turns in on the HSN should make life easier on you.

many thanks for your suggestions, very much appreciated I hope it will lead somewhere.
I am checking frequently if the engine is flooded as every guide suggests. But I will follow your steps carefully to get rid of any excessive fuel in the engine.
What really makes me wonder if it is very unsual even for a brand new car that I cannot turn the flywheel by hand even when the glow plug is out. I have to use a big screwdriver to do so. I am charging the roto start now. When it was fully charged it turned the engine without the glow plug.

Regards

If its got fuel in it, its actually normal., too much fuel and it will get near impossible, forcing it then can break stuff.

Also new engines have a real tight pinch until broken in. try using a heat gun to get the engine closer to 200f before you try to start it. That will get the metals to rotate easier.

Give the steps a try and let us know how it goes.
