My brothers friend gave me an old savage ss from about 3-4 years ago. He wants me to fix it up and get it running for him so he can drive it again. I wanted to know what I should check for in the engine, any sludge or junk in it. Also whats the best way to clean it out? What oils should I use to free up some parts that have sat on the truck and in the motor for a few years? Any input on savages is greatly appreciated, as its my first time taking apart a savage. :D

Completely disassemble the carb, and take the needles and all out and clean it thoroughly. Mine had sat for a couple years, and almost wouldn't run, this was the culprit. I'd also tear into the motor, and make sure all the bearings are good, and seal it up while your at it. Use some after run oil on re-assembly to ensure it has lubrication for that first crank. Good luck!

Thanks man, also I should use 30% fuel correct? Because its a big block?

I use denatured alcohol to clean my engines and carbs.

Just don't let it sit in the alcohol for a long time and use oil when going back together with everything.

Here is a link to sealing a nitro engine.

The AE Green Slime works awesome on the o-rings and sealing the engine will help with any air leaks/tuning problems you might have.

I run 20% nitro in my trucks and they seem to like it.

Hope this helps,

J.T.
