since its been sitting from my deployment to Baghdad for 6 months.

So. Its up and running. I took it out to a large open parking lot, and began using the flowchart robmob gave me and began tuning.

After a few hours of trial and error I got it to the point of not shutting off and not being sluggish when I gave it some throttle. However I have stumbeled on to a new problem. I have a feeling the HSN or LSN is a bit too lean now.

I didnt really touch the LSN from factory settings... Only the HSN. Here is whats happening. When opening up the throttle I get that nice stream of smoke, not a lot and not too little. After some hotlaps (I dont have anything to check temps with) I started to notice that there was no smoke... and it was shifting into second gear with odd timing. The engine also sounds like its at a bit higher RPM's then it should be.

So I will get my white smoke upon taking off and for the first few seconds and then poof no smoke... Just when accelerating off the gate. Why? I am assuming its running too lean at the higher speeds and I need to lean it out?

I dont plan on touching it again until I get a temp gun so I know I dont damage the motor.. even though its probably already near death from me doing laps with it while its, probably, too lean.

Forgive me for I am new to the RC community and as I've stated before the town I am in there is no hobbyshops and no local people I know of that race or use the RC's.

Also I wish you guys could have seen it on the track.. what a beauty it was... I started jumping it and having all sorts of fun... it gave me a really good feeling because I know that when I finally leave god forsaken Abilene Texas... chances are ill end up somewhere that there is more RC hobby tracks and interest in the locals... So I can REALLY get to see what its like. I am all by myself here. You may ask.. wait, you said there was a track!, yes there is... the guy that owns the local arts and craft store on base has a buggy and the base commander sponsored him in getting a track built out back hoping to get more people in to it. Its just him, me, and one other guy... and they dont know enough to really honestly help...

EDIT: Oh and PLEASEEEE dont strike me down rob =P I know I annoy you.

if you are talking about me, you don't annoy me, i try and help you the best way that i can. . .there is no such thing as a stupid question. . .and to answer your question I THINK you are too lean on your HSN, don't quote me on that i was having the same problem, lots of smoke off the start then it gradually goes away, i would say you are prolly too lean

Nah that was aimed at robmob. Thanks for the info though. Ill try to lean it out when I get the gun... I really just wished I had a way of KNOWING easily if it was tuned or someone experienced with me to say "hey your doing it wrong...." =P

It sounds like your rich on the lsn and lean on the hsn. Get a temp gun and start over from factory setting. If the factory settings are too rich to start the engine, lean the hsn as needed. You never touch the lsn until the hsn is set. Once you get it running right, tuning adjustments will be very minimal from one session to the next.

Wait wait wait... Tune the HSN if I can't get the engine running? I thought it was the LSN you tuned if you couldnt get it running? Ahh the lessons I am learning!

dont mess with the lsn,use after run oil and after its goin good when it goes funky dont try to tune replace glow plug first...
