Finally installed my Giant ACNCM cooling head and took it for a spin yesterday. What a difference!!!!!!! It's like a new car and it runs so well. I couldn't imagine in my wildest dreams what a difference this makes. No more cutting off....over heating etc. I ran 6 tanks straight with no issues.

Another believer! See everyone, the trx2.5 needs a better cooling head! Who would have guessed? :stupid:

Great head those ACNCM's are. Just be careful and mindful of your temps. With all that aluminum out there catching the air it cools a whole lot faster than you are used to with the old stock head. You may not get the 240 to 260 range you are used to. I have not been able to get mine over 230. I just learned as well that you want to take you readings in 3 different places on the head.... of course the plug, and then at the base of the head and at the header. I actually leaned mine out too far and lost the smoke almost completely, and I was actually overheating the mill and not knowing. The temps were fine as far as the temps at the head. Just want to make sure you don't make the same mistakes I made with that head. Oh.. one other thing, did you make sure that you got the shim off of the old stock head? I also missed that on the first go round. I hope this helps. It may be info you already know but I figured I would let you know just in case. Have fun.

Well, some people aren't like you! They remember that there is a shim! J/K... lol

Hey man.... be nice!!! I am a 100% newbie and didn't know of such things. I have made more mistakes than I care to share since I started nitro last August. Sorry if I sounded stupid. I am stupid when it comes to nitros, and I am learning everything trial and error unfortunately. I just wanted to make sure he didn't make the same mistakes I did.

Hey man, i was kidding around with you. I have only been in this hobby for around 4 years, and i have made a fair share of mistakes as well. I still consider myself to be a newbie.

Oh no... I was kidding too! I just forgot to put in the J/K icon. Its all good man, its all about having a good time around here. No hard feelings or anything... :)

Yeah, I got the shim in place on the first try. I cheated and read some previous posts here and didn't do it the "trial and error" way.

I was thinking about the overheating problem as well. My T-Maxx ran so well that I was getting worried I had it too lean. I richened it up almost 1/2 turn compared to my last run on the stock head.

In any case, it runs so much better and it's much less sensitive to the settings. With the stock head you have to have it dialed in just perfect to get it to run fast, not cut out, not oeverheat etc. If there is any other modification that makes such a huge impact on performance and driveability then please let me know because I'll go get it right away.

I installed a fule filter as well. Turned out to be a good thing since the first thing I did was to dump sand in the tank. hehehehe

Do you have a performance air filter or exhaust pipe on it? By the way... sand is to drive in... engines dont like sand!

Nope, I'm running the standard filter and standard pipe.

Yeah, I know sand is not good for the engine. I cleaned it out but what ever was left I hope the airfilter took care of.

What about the Traxxas machined blue "PowerTune" head? I've heard it works great and doesn't pose as much risk of running too lean, to keep the temps up.

Does anyone know? The ACNC head certainly looks better.

I personally don't run the traxxas blue tuned pipe. I run a THS pipe on the maxx and it was like the ACNCM head as far as the improvement in the Maxx's performance. It breathes alot easier and not to mention sounds great too! I would replace your A arms with a set from RPM. This is not a "Performance" part, it will just toughen the truck up a lot. RPM also gurantees the parts for life against breakage. You can replace all A arms upper and lower for like 44 bucks. Real cheap and makes your Maxx so much tougher. Man there is so much that I did to my maxx I am not sure what to tell you next. Possibly a set of aluminum bulkheads, and then maybe a Lunsford Ti conversion. The sky is the limit with Hop ups! Just have fun and if there is anything I can help you with feel free to ask. Later.

RPM is supposed to have bulkheads soon!

Cool man! That would be sweet! Aluminum looks nice but man that stuff gets expensive. I will have to keep an eye out for that. It would be nice if I had a lifetime guarantee on all the stuff on that maxx.

I put the Powertune head on my T-Maxx before I ever ran it for break in. It really helps a lot. Temps always measured more stable, kept a tune longer and wasn't finicky one bit once it broke in.

Another reason I used the Powertune head is that I did not want to modify my bodies to fit a new head. However, for the price of the Powertune head, you can get the ACNCM head, which does do a better job of cooling. So, it's a trade off; factory fit with a better tune, or the best cooling around, provided you do not lean it to death.

Thanks for the info. The only reason I was considering the Traxxas blue head, was, I've seen them on eBay for cheaper than the ACNC.

Wow - RPM bulkheads - that's great.

is it really that hard to install
i guess it just takes pationce

Update - RPM is NOT coming out with bulkheads. Their braces are the only bulkhead type product.

No, they had an update somewhere that said they were coming out with bulkheads, and it had a pic...

That would be great if they did, but I called them yesterday and they said they were definitely not coming out with them. They said the bulkhead braces were all they were doing for the bulkheads.

I hope they two people I spoke to, just had it wrong, though.

I would love to see it happen, though.
