Being new to the Savage, I wasn't sure why everyone was in such a rush to convert to the Ofna sliders on their linkage. But I have finally realized one good reason. With the stock setup, when you apply full throttle, you can also inadvertently apply a fair amout of brakes because the brake linkage binds in the servo horn and it pushes the brake arm so far back that the brakes engage. I almost burned up my clutch tonight because of that. I stopped it just in time. So no harm done. Anyway, since I probably won't be able to get my hands on Ofna parts for a bit, I made my own mods to keep this from happening.
First, I took a bit of extra pushrod I had laying around and I bent it in a loop so it would fit under the top tranny mount screw that's just above the brake lever. I left a bit on the end and bent it out so that it keeps the brake arm from pushing back. Also, when the servo goes to full throttle, it pins the brake linkage against the roll bar which makes it worse. So I put a little "S" bend in the linkage to keep it off the roll bar. Then a little EPA adjust on my XR3i to keep the servo from travelling past full throttle and it seems to work rather well. Now just having to deal with that PITA knob on the end of the brake rod....

Its also relly sloppy. Not as responsive as i wanted it.

I must say thats a pretty good tip bud.. I can use something like that on my mid tank truck.. it needs it.!

candyman I FINALLY got my 4.6 put together and sould get the JR xs3 in tomorrow. does your throttle return spring even bring the carb closed if the servo is off, Mine does not just wanted to see how yours was doing. also from your other thread I am soo scared to drive this cuase its soo pretty I don't want to get it dirty or break it LOL

My return spring works well. Did you use the one that came in the upgrade bags or in the regular bags? The one in the upgrade bags is stronger I think.
And it sucks to get it dirty. But I guess once that first scratch is in there, the rest won't bother you as much. Can't turn back now. It's already done. So now I feel better throwing all sorts of crap at it.

no mine was packaged differently than yours I only got one spring I noticed your tires were packaged separately and your instruction manual was a little diff I think your kit was an earlier one than mine, but thats just a guess
LOL I can't wait I finally, after 2 other mistakes (bought cheaper RC's) I have a savage!!!

One word of warning. Take it easy on the brakes. I had mine set too tight. Every time I hit the brakes today the truck would do a front flip! Man, those dual discs rule!

I think that something is up with mine, I can hear a little rubbing when I roll the truck, and I am sure this is bad, I just don't have a right angle phillips to squeeze in there, I think my dad may have one at home, does yours do this? i am thinking its bad right??

This is all related to your servo horn position, your linkage settings, and the length of fuel tubing on the brake rod. I have been running the stock linkage for over 5 gallons now and I never had any problems. When I go wide open my carb slide is fully extended (just about hits the tank), the brake linkage does not touch the roll bar, and the brake rod is pointing straight up. Even if I manually try to push the brake linkage back at full throttle it stays straight up and down (because of the fuel tubing) and it will not drag the brakes. Here is a pic:

is that spring on the linkage stock cause onthe 4.6 it has the throttle return spring mounted directly on the carb

I moved the spring because the stock spring location ends up fighting with the stock servo saver at WOT. IMO the stock spring location is also too close to the carb slide boot.

Moving the spring a fairly common mod. I added a zip tie near the linkage pivot to keep the spring close to the pivot point.
