I went through a little of the same stuff today as the gentleman below...The first couple of tanks were very very slow to get going....I noticed that without foil wrapped around the cooling head I was getting 110 to 180...With it, I was able to keep it between 205-225...The 225 did not show up until the longer runs on like tank 4....I actually had to richen it up just slightly to get it to "run" decent for tanks 1-4 (never had to touch it after that)...I will definitely need to make some adjustments for tuning...I ran 5 1/2 tanks through it before the rain came...With the weather the way it is, I will wait for a little warmer temperatures to really fine tune it...She was running right around 205 or so on last tank...But she definitely needs some tuning...However, What a machine!!!!! I know its old hat to you fellas, But I had a good smoke trail, so I opened her up a little bit on that last 1/2 tank(6th)...I only had a minor mishap...no scratches and no breakages....but she did roll on her shiny side....1X. I will say this though...I need some practice....That is a bunch of speed and power to have at your fingertips....

Now a question...I installed my center diff while I was waiting to get to run it..Would that installation require me to re-adjust my shift point???? it seems like she is staying in first gear slightly longer than she should? Or will being properly "tuned" fix that problem...?

Anyway, Thanks for all the tips and reading my meanderings...I appreciate it!

Hey Hawk,
Congrats on brake-in, glad it worked well.
I broke mine in on an airport, and tank 6 was the point when after running a little faster I misjudged the fact that if you let go on the gas, wheight changes will flip it in a curve, LOL.
It feels great to be done with it... now you can have fun!

great ride, I got to gout today and tune the hsn man this thing has power I love to hear it shift into 2 gear. I broke mine in 2 weekends ago and after 6th tank i replaced glow plug with os lc3 and motor saver filter and ran on the 7th tank but glow plug popped quarter of the tank in, probably because I didnt tune it I think. but today I ran it again with another lc3 made adjustments and it ran great shifts quicker than before I think. ran 2 tanks and stopped. Jumped a couple snow banks on the drive way awesome!!

Blade,

After I asked the question about the shifting, I was reading through the manual. The "tune" does have something to do with the shifting..DOH!....So I will tune it a little better next time I run it...I have a real "HEALTHY" respect for that truck...All I could see as she was screaming down the middle of the road is a 30+ mile per hour collision with a Hard object and the dollar signs that would follow...I am running that plug as well...I changed out after tank two from the stock plug...I will be getting a motor saver filter as well as a Resonator Pipe this week sometime....by the way, the beloved came out and thought it was pretty cool...She said she "loves" the way it sounds...I gotta love that woman....LOL

Good to hear u got the break in done - sounds like u will be tearing up the neighborhood soon and getting a reputation for yourself. COOL. You should have no problem as long as you use afterrun oil when you finish using the truck and keep the batteries charged so you are ready to go next time.

Once you are settled with the tune and idle with temp around 224 degrees Farenheit leave it the tune alone - You dont want to overheat the engine - It can take about another 10 degrees on top of what I have stated but if you are looking for longevity and reliablility , you wont want to push it too far into the higher end. Also --- Temperatures around 100 Degrees are not great for you nice new engine. Try to run it in conditions which are a bit less extreme so the cooling head will have some cool air instead of dry heat.

Have fun........

Firedup,

Thanks for the tip...The good news is, most of the "extreme" conditions I will face around here will be "Cold" We have not seen temps in the 100's since around 1994....Looks like Saturday we are getting up to 38 so I might get to run it for a couple hours...My motor saver will be in next week sometime and I am also going to check my LHS for a Resonator....
