Ok, I've decided to turn my savage into a better racer. so far I have:

MP servo saver mod
OFNA throttle linkage
4-gear spider diff mod
Hitec 645MG
625MG
Bowtie 40 series
(stock engine)
Mugen 3-shoe clutch (MBX-4)
New air filter
25 RTR fuel tank (I have the savage SS)
rechargable RX pack
long fuel lines and fuel fliter for those extended times when the marshal is busy or forgets

Now, here's what I plan to buy:

New engine
Al. Bulkheads
New tools
and a few other Misc. items

So, what else should I get? I'm thinking of getting those al. integy chassis braces too.
And, I need a reccomendation on an engine. I'd like to hear from the people who race theirs. I want a good racing engine. Something powerful enough to clear those tripples. But not too powerfull.

It would be tuff to say without see'ing the track you run on.

On my tight 75'x75' track the stock HPI 25 works great, the XTM 24.7 is another good choice.

If you are looking for something larger, the HPI 4.6 & SH .28's are supposed to be pretty decent (at least that's what I have heard).

As for an engineI would look into the EB Moded NOva 8 Port. Tons of power for the track. I plan on running one in my truggy.

Other mods you should consider would be

Vertigo "RACE THIS TVP'S" To get it longer and lower to the ground.
The mid tank mod to help it perform better.
4 lst shocks w/ the nova towers to help out the handling.
A crowd pleazer for durability and easy acsess to everything
Some high end servos

Thats all i can think of for now.

Ya, I forgot to mention that I plan to run on a 225'x75' track...

And I should mention that my budget for now is $330, and I already plan on buying an engine, al. bulkheads ($30) new roll-bar ($20)

So, I effectively have $280 left...

And, I can try to port my S-25 if you all think it'll give me enough power.

But, the engine I'm most interested in is the picco 27, anyone have any feedback on this engine?

All I can say is lower it and maybe insted of buying a new engine get yours ported and polished...and RC Boyz triple rate springs with 25-35wt(depending on your track style) ..I'm in the process of trying shock limiters too so I will let you know how that work this time torrommow

I have 35 wt. in there now, but it probably needs to be replaced. My Savage is in major need of some maintance... (nothing broke, jus stuff needs adjusting/cleaned)

http://www.rockconcepts.net/proddetail.php?prod=RCR-SMP-01/RCR-SRC-01 what about this? Seems good cept how it leans the fuel tank forward...I personally don't see that part as working well, even w/ the stock tank (I still have mine)

pic of it installed:

And, I've been pondering these: http://www.novarcproducts.com/clutchshoes.html

Or, what other al. clutch shoes should I get?

I dont know I could had got the LCG's for 60 but I didnt have any money

ok first off get your self a set of LCG TVP's they make a world of difference in the handeling of the truck.
secondly skip the aluminum bulkheads what will searve you better is the aluminum gearboxes. I have them in mine and have yet to blow a diff due to the diff bearings warping the plastic gearbox when it gets hot.
Third the K4.6 is a decent engine I raced with it this past sunday it it has as much speed as my picco .26 but the lowend is much more controlable. as for porting out the S25 it is worth it and is realativly easy to do and really wakes up the engine.

I need the al. bulkheads cause I keep on messin up my rear ones, mostly my fault, but nothing I can really do to fix it beside al. bulkheads.
And, anyone have a tutorial on how to port the S-25?

And, should I go w/ the CF tvps? I really don't want to spend that much money. Basically, which is stronger, CF vertigo tvps, or al. vertigo tvps?

sh .28 and the correct gearing would be a great choice. You can get the mill for $130ish if you shop around!

Sh is an excellent choice. Go CF its stronger than the ALU and much lighter, which is what you want for racing.

You ask anyone that runs an LCG set up and they will say it is a dramatic differece and is a must for racing.. I know how much of a difference it made on my truck.

i hear those nova clutch shoes are SICK. i have the nova towers and cooling head. the tower will let you lower it to the ground.

the cooling head is nice it was 100 degrees yesterday. and my hsn was 2 3/4 turns from closed and my temps were only hitting 220 degrees.

i'd like to have a set of those tvps from twisted toys.

IMHO the CF TVP's don't really shave all that much weight off the truck yes they are lighter and just about as strong as the aluminum but when they bust thats it at least the aluminum you have a chance of bending them back(maybe)
with a budget of around 300$ i'd get the aluminum TVP's who's you get is entierly up to you. I tried to get the twisted TVP's myself but couldn't get a hold of anyone for months (to be fair he was setting up his own shop so it was just a matter of timing) I went with a smaller outfit that puts out there own LCG TVP's at a good deal (if you want more info PM me.) I looked at the rock concepts and just couldn't part with that much cash and I personally didn't care for the finish the vertigo parts are top notch but again they were just outside of what I had to spend.

as for the motor a ported S25 should serve you quite well, one thing i've found with these big MT's is that slower is generally faster since you spend less time on your lid and more time actually going around the track. I run a ported picco .26 and I honestly never get a chance to go more then half throttle even on the straight the motor is just to powerful for the track.

as for the bulkheads what exactly are you breaking and how are you breaking it? I broke one bulkhead in over 2 years and I had to hit a concreate pillar at 40+ to do it.

Ya, I've had a chance to compare a savage w/ CF tvp's and stock tvp's (Mine, and carbon's) And I didn't notice that much of a difference. I think I have someone who can hook me up w/ a set of the twisted toyz tvps, so I'm prolly gonna get those.
