Excuse me?
I'm sorry for your tragic loss, but was there something in my post that you felt was intended to offend you?
Perhaps you can explain the meaning of your last sentence.

thats what i talk about all the time it's like no one can say anything without affending someone in some way....... I really dont see how rolex making a joke had anything to do woth what you have gotten upset about Like he said sorry for the lose but this forum is about r/c's and having fun and fixing problems not taking a comment about a thread to the heart like he was dissing your son personaly or trying to make you unhappy in any way..

...and that was only your 5th post. Welcome to the forum.
A lot of members come here to forget their problems and use this forum and this hobby as a great escape, and that includes me.
If normal posts become a way of reminding you of bad times, and you use those posts to insult a member, perhaps you should go to a knitting forum instead.

was there actually r/c's around in the 60's?????

ok i did research so he would have had to of gotten one from italy or the uk to have had one in the 60's us didnt start production till the 70's wow i havent found any pics yet but I am trying...

I wasn't offended, just felt it was a stupid post....What I meant by the moldy comment which also covers the stupid part is that , the thread was 3 years old.....surely there has been some progress in both materials and therefore speed in those three years........I am kinda interested in what those might be... the quest for speed is never "moldy"..I just posted a response to a thread and was hoping that others would add a worthwhile contribution to that thread too, "Who's turn is it to dust? 2008 thread might be moldy" just wasn't the response I was looking for or expected from a site about nitro vehicles, and especially about one of the most popular vehicles ever built...but, if it's old and you don't want to see it pop up again... delete the thread..or lock it down so there can't be any further posts... it's that easy, I just did a search for it, something that I seen many on here chastise others for NOT doing, and in doing such and responding to the still OPEN thread...and well here we are....
and as far as rc's in the 60's, yes they were around, I actually started out on control line cars and small planes, but in 68 or 69 my father came up with one that had no wires, it was pretty fragile and kinda boring, we didn't get it out much as everytime we did, it broke, and a wait for parts was a long one, that's kinda how i got my start in fabricating parts....and before you say I was too young.....I rebuilt my first alternator, which worked...when I was 8 years old... serious........I did have a couple pics of the car, but they were lost in our house fire in 97........Now as far as the "knitting forum" comment.... if I was truly upset, you would know it, I don't do knitting and I don't think they would welcome someone who makes custom weapons for a living......but I do find it quite interesting that you would chastise me for being upset on the anniversary of my son's death, maybe you think I'm lying about that, well search for yourself, Spc. Dustin R Hartley 1/9, 1st Cav...9/25/81-4/25/2005... he was 23.......
Rolex, my post was in no way intended to be insulting, to you or anyone else, and I don't see how you could even interpret it as such, jumping to conclusions seems to be pretty prevalent around here, maybe it's all the years dealing with newby questions, maybe your just a little touchy.....well, I was a bit touchy yesterday, and I had a valid reason to be too, but my emotions in no way affected my post or response, why would it?, you had no Idea of the days significance to me, I just found your response "funny".. and that is it.... nothing else intended.... sorry if you felt or feel otherwise..
and now that this thread is trashed... How and where can I find valid info and responses to the improvements to the speeds and durability of the custom(not stock)Tmaxx that have happened over the last few years? surely there has to be better and faster than mine......or is the Tmaxx a dead horse?

It did kinda come of like you thought it was intended for you and like you said an emotional day everything could have just came out wrong or we read it wrong but what ever the fact is sorry bout your loss and having a rough time with it. I couldnt imagine.... Now for the thread what is it you are trying to find out?? and no way is the maxx a dead hourse.... I have 3 and i havent had to bring any of them out to the pasture (l.o.l) and which model do you have???? is it the classic that came with the 2.5 or is it the older one that had the .15???

What kinda weapons do you make guns, knives, alittle more heavy duty?????and hey i was inventive as a kid to so not hard to beleive you have a few acomplishments from when you were a kid...

I have done the same thing I ended up restarting a coupld posts that i didnt realize were old but hey they are here no reason to loose old info that could help someone out without asking the same old question and gettin poop for it...

Like I said I doubt there was anything intended with the moldy comment and the way you worded the thanks for the moldy comment it kinda sounded like you took it personal.... Everyone has a day where stuff dont go right... But I hope today is alittle better for you and go out and run a few tanks through the rig for good memories...... One of the best reasons to stay in the hobby,,,, you should post some pics of the beast,
Oh and what were the names of the rc's at the time I am always interested to find out where something started and how much different everything is....

how do you like the three speed tranny?? and do you race with it or do you just bash around the back forty????? ( sorry some maine talk there)

Well, I make knives too, but that is just a hobby, I make full custom Traditional bows, and am one of only two people in the world that make them out of antler, I've been at it 5 years and have bows on every continent now....

And about our Maxx, I bought it used and it already had a .21 on it, but i've had to replace or make each and every piece since then, it has an aluminium chassis that was made from a piece of a real am gen. hummer that I got when we went to visit my son at Ft. Hood, a handmade full roll cage, still has a .21 but it's been tweaked a bit, and I love the three speed tranny, one of the best things I ever did to it, and it's been flawless in performance, not one problem with it ever, i do run the stock front axles for a weak link, but I've never had to replace them due to mishap, just wore a few out is all, it also has a spool in the rear with mips, and never had a problem there either, when I started rebuilding this , it was not just for speed but for the battle of atrition too, as the faster it went the easier it was to break, thus the reason for the full cage, I hit a shopping cart while we were in Killeen(Ft. Hood), at almost full speed, the cart went up about 6' and flew about 15', and I drove the maxx back to me, but the first 6061 chassis that I built was toast, that's when I got the piece from the hummer and made a new chassis..........I raced it a few times, and did very well, but I like "bashing" more than racing, and right now there aren't any tracks to race on around here, except for the one I just built here, but it's a bit small for nitro, so that track is next on the list, I have plenty of room, no neighbors to cry and complain either....... and as far as the name of that old RC... I don't remember, it wasn't my favorite by far, but it was a nice looking POS..............seemed like it was always broke.......

Here's a pic, Maxx on the right, Savage on the left...My son built the savage, but the maxx is much faster, and way more durable.....

No, but an officer in Kileen clocked it at 58, right before I hit the cart, and it wasn't at top speed..... the crash also took out my failsafe, which I didn't replace as I mostly bash at a pretty close proximity, but I have a new radio headed this way that has it, so if the opportunity presents itself I may try a speed run.......I did run it against a new but hopped up maxx a couple years ago, gave him a 20' head start and at about 60' he made a bobble and I ran right over him.... trashed his body, shock towers, shocks and broke the head off his engine........he wasn't happy, but there was nothing I could do.....

In the past couple of weeks we've had several new members post their advise to a thread starter that hasn't been on the forum in 5 or 6 years.
We refer to those threads as having been dragged up from the basement, covered in dust and mold.
It was nothing more than a humorous comment on my part.
If you'd like, let me know and I'll remove the entire thread and you can start a new one about your engine or your hobby.

When you say, "Killeen" I assume you're referring to Killeen, Texas. I spent 22 months on Fort Hood.

That's ok Rolex, I've searched different sites and found that our maxx is still viable.. didn't find anything to improve upon......

And 22 months on Ft. Hood.....Thank you for your service!!!......and did you ever run on that track they had over at the hobby shop? I took my maxx there along with my 1/8th buggy, without seeing them run they wouldn't let the buggy on the course because they thought it might be too fast.... Maxx was ok though.......funny thing is the maxx would smoke the buggy,lol,lol... I entered the maxx in a race there, got put in the end wall twice lapping traffic and still won by a lap.......next day I hit the cart.. two weeks later it was repaired, and I sent it down to my son as a gift to keep him out of trouble....and if this pic comes through...... it was taken at the lake on the north end of Ft. Hood on our second trip down a few days before he left for Iraq, the maxx is on the ground, he's driving the buggy, it was the last time I got to play with my son...... it was a great day.....

Cherish your memories.
Is that Belton Lake?
When I was there we didn't have RC cars, but I spent my time and my fortune at the slot car raceway on Avenue D, right across the street from the Blue Bonnet Cafe. They are both long gone.

Yep, I believe that's it........also funny you should bring up slot cars, they inadvertantly led me into C/L and Rc's......there was a large indoor slot track a block and a half from my home, as a little kid I was facinated by them, but the treatment I recieved while there turned me off to them completely, dad got me a control line, then the first car I ever saw you could drive without wires.....took a couple years off here and there, but I've pretty much been throwing money at em ever since..........

It was that slot car raceway owned by a retired couple, Mr. and Mrs. Johnson, that got me addicted to ALL things remotely controlled.
Thanks to both of them for their kindness, courtesy and credit, and a place to stash my big box of stuff. When I got out of the service, I stopped by and donated the entire stash to them. A few hundred dollars at the time, but by today's prices, well over a grand.

I am sure they loved that expecially where everything was something they knew all about anyways.. If you ever wanna give anything away again i am here for you l.o.l
