What fail safes are you guys running....which have you had the best of luck with?

If throttle return springs count, that is all I run. No electronic failsafes on my T, yet; and I don't foresee adding any.
 
I ran the Dynamite failsafe for a little while after they first made their debut. It gave me nothing but trouble. I dropped it in my toolbox after it locked my throttle servo wide open. That is where it will probably stay. Unless, somebody wants to buy it. Then nevermind all that other stuff.;)
 
I started with all MPI failsafes, which never gave me a problem except in the pocketbook. So, I have since run the Venom Racing failsafe and everything ismuch better as far as cost. Internally, they appear to be exactly the same. Even on the outside, just the casing is different colors.

I run failsafes on ALL of my vehicles and have found them to be VERY useful. However, if you do not run a 6v NimH or NiCd pack, you can and probably will have problems.
 
$19.00 Damn, I paid $56.00 for my Futaba...OUCH. But I don't know if I should trust you, you do like cirrus servos, and megawreck engines, and you are on X's list, J/K LOL ;)
 
I use the MIP.
As far as I know It works.
Un-like others I run only top quality products all the way around. None of my electronics have ever failed, **Yet. I also run a return spring as well. I look at it like backing up my hard drive, Its not a matter of if, its a matter of when.

I have seen failsafe in action on other peoples R/Cs a majority of the time it is user related. If you are concerned about R/C enough to get a failsafe you should invest in a good set of batteries for both the RX and TX at the same time. Other than a bad crash or conflicting radio signals, dead batteries are what you are protecting against and this is 100% user error.

My statement about using top quality products wasn't a slam on you Retread, we just went to two different schools.

I will make this statement and stand behind it.
NOTHING IS BETTER THAN QUALITY.
Many products are available that are less expensive and may function the same or better than a quality name-brand product 99% of the time.

Its that 1% thats a killer, and I would rather spend the extra money if for nothing else, peace of mind.

Ok - Take the Futaba / MPI / Venom and put them all side by side. They are the exact same. Just each mftr. has their respective name slapped on it. All 3 are 'top quality' in my book. I have 1 XTM as well and took it apart to 'play with it' and must say I like the others better. For personal reasons that I wont divulge.

XTM's do work though. Gotta give em that! Just DONT use any failsafe with regular batteries and you should be fine.

Eddy - I wouldn't say that we're so much from different schools. Heck, I laid out full price for that O.S. CV-RX! I just normally try to save money when it looks like there's a good alternative to buying the absolute best product or name brand.

With that CV-RX - I wanted to venture into the OS world to see if all the hype was valid. It is a GOOD engine, does hold a tune very well and it's powerful. But is it worth DOUBLE the cost of an M-16? I suppose if I had received a turd M-16 I'd be the first to say yes. But I got a good one. Megatech customer service has been great too.

Which takes me to the next point - Customer Service.
I'd have to take your statement one step further though - Product Quality is important, but Customer Serice is equally important....and THAT is what I feel is that extra 1% or as you state "piece of mind". Knowing that if the product fails, they'll stand behind it.

If you can afford to buy only "top shelf" equipment then by all means more power to you. I know I can't afford to always buy the best - I'm always looking for a good equitable product to the big name products. Sometimes I get "stuffed" though too, but not often because I do a bit of research before I buy!

:o BTW - I've used the XTM failsafe with both regular batteries and recharchable NiMh's - NOT reciever packs, 'cause I'm too cheap to spend the bucks on them. I've NEVER had problems with my setups. I have heard plenty of warnings and grips though!

From the return counter of a spring store I happened to fall into last summer.:D

My LHS has a container full of them.
Does your Savage have a slide carb or a rotary?
 
Slide - and the return spring is too strong. I stretched it and all but it still is too stiff. The spring comes with it. When I go WOT the carb still doesn't open all the way. Already have the venom failsafe installed. I'm certain a higher torque servo would cut it, just want to wait to blow the stock first.
 
I'm a newbie and my local track requires throttle return springs so i was windering if i had a throtttle return spring would i need a failsafe too?
 
Dynamite and the mini ofna. They both work fine. It was the time that one wasn't installed that I remember all to well.
